You have GOT to be kidding... Hell, Ward couldn't be the lead man on "Leave it to Beaver", let alone any team in the NBA. I apprecialte your support for James and Sura, but let's not kid ourselves, Heisman should have stuck with football, and if Houston (the city) really wanted him here it should have been as a backup to David Carr.
I hate to break it to you, but our backcourt is one if the weakest in the league, not one of the strongest. I'm not trying to rag on you, but damn, I watched every game last year except for when it was storming and my DirecTV lost it's signal. I have NBA league pass as well, and you are dilusional if you think our backcourt ranks anywher near SA, Dallas, NJ, Miami, Detroit, GS, LAC, Phoenix, Seattle, Chicago, Indiana, NY, etc...(we may even be behing NO) I could go on and on. I love Sura, and IMO, James off the bench is the Microwave of the 2000's, but the Guard positions are definately the weak spots in our line-up.

That doesn't justify the amount of hate he got (and still gets) from posters on this board, because it's not really his fault, but that's the reason why people wanted him gone.

Not many of us were upset to see him traded when we got T-Mac. People were upset when we started losing games early in the season.

I don't agree that Mike James necessarily plays like Stevie, but I do agree that he's better in the role as a scorer off the bench. He can't really run an offense.

But he IS the best backup PG in the league. And aside from David Wesley, he's the most underappreciated member of our team (on this board, at least).

david wesley gets no love because he airballs wide open three pointers in the play-offs.

While he should blend in better with a full training camp, the fact is MJ is a superb backup PG with specific skills who just will not be successful as a starter. He showed a lot of flash those first few games that took your breath away, but as time went on his limitations became glaringly obvious. That said, he was our most effective guard against the Mavs (on offense and defense) and without him the series doesn't go 7 games.......And give the waiving off of T-Mac a rest pleeeease. If that's all you've got to say don't waste the space on Clutch's server.

For those who think he's so great, the guy is a ball hog who can't pass to save his life. His inconsistency and bone-headed plays drive me insane. He's perfect for a spark off the bench or to have in the game with the 2nd unit. His on-ball pressure is great when he doesn't commit 3 fouls in 2 minutes............Overall, I'm an MJ supporter (and a realist). He fills a needed role for us at the right price and may be the best backup PG in the NBA.
While I think your post is mostly on target, I don't know of many Mike James supporters who don't recognize his limitations. Most of us "supporters" see him as one of the best back-up PGs in the league, but kind of marginal starter (you would rather not start him, but he is a lot better to start than most back-ups if you need to due to injury). I think the negative biases way outweighs the positive bias. The same is true for some posters toward Wesley and Sura.

And absolutely way too many fans have had their panties in a wad (particularly adeelsiddiqui) because of a brief within the game sequence where Tmac waived him off or visa versa, whatever. No one played up to their potential that game and it was a team failure, lots of frustration all around. Water under the bridge to everyone except those view certain NBA players as gods and any minor disagreements with them as blasphemy.

He shot airballs because he was chasing Terry and Stackhouse around for 38mpg. Give the dude a break.

I'd love to get an upgrade to Wesley, if possible. But we'd be making a mistake just dumping Wesley without a better alternative. If he's our starter, I'm perfectly happy with it.

Besides, Wesley averaged more minutes than anybody on the team except TMac. He was an iron man.

Hell, he logged in 48 minutes in game 5. Which makes me wonder why a PG upgrade seems to be priority #1 right now. Sura/James can pretty much hold down the fort, but a defensive swingman that can backup Wesley and T-mac would fill a big need for the team.

I think most agree now that SG is a bigger priority for upgrade than PG. I love the heart, soul & effort DW brings, but he is definitely our weakest starter.

There WILL be some classic moments come out of this thread.

Mike James is the man. I'll bump it in about seven months.
