Be the final piece of the puzzle for a title contender or carry a rebuilding team.

Of course he would rather go to LA. Hell, I'd not just be glad, I'd be jumping for joy.

He would have had to walk away from an extra 30 mil guaranteed on possibly his final super max level contract of his career. Also, they only team with cap space other than the Rockets, and a few select others would have been Dallas. Even then, Dallas wouldn't be able to give Howard his bird rights that Houston could have. Brooklyn, LAL, LAC, Miami, NYC all would have been capped out, and could not sign Howard unless they overhauled their rosters.

Maybe he would have walked at the end of the year for much, much less money, but he would have had a year in Houston for common sense to set in.

Even if he would have walked, the Rockets would have got to the playoffs with a very young team, the youngsters would have benefited greatly from playing off of a great big man, Lin would have had a career year running the P&R with Howard, and they would have only had to give up 2 picks, Lamb, and Martin's expiring.

There are much worse gambles a GM can take. Oh well, at least the Rockets got Harden. Everything happens for a reason, lets just see what happens with this new era Rockets team.

Dwight Howard is not a Rocket, has never been a Rocket, and this article does not appear to be about the Rockets, therefore does NOT belong in the GARM.
