For real, he wasn't JJ Watt, showing up every play / every game but the dude did not suck; his low point was nowhere near the turd of a rookie season ThaDivaOn is turning in.

LOL, all of this talk about Clowney looking "terrible" just goes to show that some Texans fans

    1. Had stupid expectations for a rookie.

    2. Don't know what they are seeing when they watch a football game.

    3. Might not actually watch football.

I think they should put him on IR for the rest of the season. He's clearly still not 100%. Shut him down and get a head start on his rehab and come back ready for next season.

    No.

He needs the experience and can learn a ton in the remaining 5 games.

What about the other 99% of the time getting locked down by one blocker in the pass rush? He made a few solid plays that you would expect out of a 5th or 6th round pick. He also only manhandled a TE which you earlier downplayed Mack for.

He's played 2.5 games in his entire career and has shown some pretty awesome flashes so far. This game alone he stopped 2 TD's, one ended up a TD on the next play anyway because they ran away from him, but that's pretty good for someone who has such little NFL experience. I get that some people are looking to whine and complain, either because they are upset that the Texans lost the game or because they weren't on board with drafting Clowney to begin with, but if they opened their eyes and knew what to look for they'd see the makings of a very good player.

I am pretty sure he was offsides on the JJ pick 6. Very lucky that wasn't called back. After that I noticed he shifted back repeatedly after getting in his stance with both hands down...as if coaches gave him a warning.

The guy still looks awkward when he isn't rushing the QB and he isn't getting directed penetration toward the ball. He had a pretty mediocre game but I think that is pretty good at this point. He just needs more reps and needs to see more action. This is still his pre-season.

That tackle of the blocking fullback was pretty impressive though. :)

Rookie Mario had 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He played all 16 games. In fact, he played all 16 games his first 4 seasons in the NFL.

Clowney is sitting on 0 sacks and 5 total tackles in the first 4 games of his career.

Mario also played his rookie season with plantar fasciitis.

Never thought I would ever see a Texans fan praising Mario's rookie season. It just goes to show you that if you have an agenda, you can twist history in any way to make your opinion true.

Clowney has been absolute joke so far. But there's no reason to go back and mystify Mario's rookie year as if he was an incredible soldier of dedication and solid play. Mario sucked as a rookie both in raw stats and by on-field impact. I know people are down on Clowney, but you don't have to prop up Mario, the very definition of inconsistency, disappearing acts, and nagging injuries, to do so.

Clowney sucks pretty damn well on his own merit.

I'm certainly not lauding Mario. That's kind of the point. With all of his warts and all of the question marks surrounding Mario in his rookie year, it's still far better than what we've received from Clowney in his rookie year.

If Mario is, as you say, "the very definition of inconsistency, disappearing acts and nagging injuries" what is Clowney? The man hasn't recorded a sack since the Outback Bowl in Jan. 2013. We're coming on 2 years without a sack now against both pro and college talent.
