    Pretty funny indeed:grin:

But pretty sad as they're mocking the whole point of the awareness/challenge:(

this is the new harlem shake and frankly it's a bit annoying. so many people out there wanting to post their challenge for selfish reasons only.

As long as they donate, i'm okay with it. It's those who don't and just do the bucket challenge that I'm a little bothered with. I hope to see people start donating to other charities voluntarily as I'm sure ALS is good for the year. Spread the financial love!

I see what ipaman is saying. I too feel that there shouldn't be a "challenge" nor any silly stunt, nor an announcement. JUST DONATE. You don't have to tell us, you don't have to challenge anyone, you don't have to record your silly FAIL or SUCCESS. JUST DONATE.

We did it at work yesterday; probably 60% of our office participated. It was fun, we recorded it, and we donated. I don't see the harm in that.

It wasn't on my list of charities prior to, but the challenge succeeded in making us aware of how much is needed.

I'm going to be called a Debbie Downer for this but so be it.

It's a good thing that people are donating to a worthy cause but I am bothered that it is taking a viral video gag to get people to donate. ALS research is raking money in now I bet donations will drop like a stone when the ice bucket challenge is as cool as Gangnam style parodies.

The other problem is that while ALS is a serious issue if you look at the spectrum of diseases and other causes of human misery out there there are a lot of others that where far more suffering from it and where solutions are known but need more funding.

What's with the hate? The videos are bringing attention to a disease and that attention has brought money toward a cure. Of course the same amount of attention/money would not be there without the gimmick so doesn't that make the gimmick a good thing?

Bottom line: mo attention = mo cash = mo cure

I know what you mean. It's great to raise awareness for a cause, but ALS affects around 1 out of 100k people. The donations could have a bigger impact in other areas.

    Pretty much this

It's obviously become trendy, and people love trends. Most of them could not care less about ALS. But the fact of the matter is ALS funding is up, way up, regardless of how it got there. So it's a good thing.
