Just received a blast from 610 stating that the texans are signing mallet and hoyer so does this mean Fitz is gone?

The Texans will have have two quarterbacks competing for one job.

The team has re-signed Ryan Mallett to a two-year contract and is set to sign Brian Hoyer on Tuesday. Free agent deals can’t be made official until 3 p.m. Tuesday.

NFL Network first reported the signings Monday.

Mallett and Hoyer will compete for the starting job in 2015. Texans coach Bill O’Brien crossed paths with Hoyer and Mallett in New England. Hoyer was 7-6 as Cleveland’s starter last season; Mallett went 1-1 leading the Texans.

The Texans still have veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and 2014 fourth-round choice Tom Savage on their roster. By releasing Fitzpatrick, the Texans would free up $3.2 million in cap space.

    Wait?

I kept reading on this message board that Fitzpatrick was good last year...... obviously the Texans did not think so.

If the Jets come in and swoop Hoyer I will not be upset. The Mallett deal is all that really matters to me.

I really don't know how I feel about this.

I wanted Mallet back but I'm not crazy about forcing him into a competition with Hoyer. I'd guess Fitz ends up being cut or traded to the Jets. He's going to end up there either way.

The Texans would be better with a Mallet-Hoyer competition than not.

Oh I agree completely but we don't want to price ourselves out of flexibility elsewhere. If he is getting offered $5+ per then they can have him.

I do like the Mallett/Hoyer combo though given the circumstances.

Not bad, let's see what happens. Guess it's an improvement over last year.

Dont' mind this because we are going with Mallett. I'd be very disappointed if Mallett cannot beat Hoyer but at least we'll know that we still need a qb

I want Mallett to be that guy as well, but I love the idea of competition. Our trio of qbs this year will be much better than last year. I believe this is good for Tom Savage too.

I like them oven only because I don't trust Mallett. He seems like the type that whiteout real competition would not progress and become any good. Seems like a slacker (his rep since college).

Glad to see BOB hedging his bets with Hoyer

Nothing wrong with a little spirited competition. If Mallett can't outplay Hoyer after having a year in the system, he doesn't deserve the gig anyhow. Unlike last season, I think this is an actual competition.

Kubiak would never have done something like this so I love it.

    Yawn.

Will people be disappointed when next season ends in no playoffs or a loss?

This is such a dumb statement.

What are we going to do... Trade for Aaron Rodgers??? There is a reason true franchise QBs do not ever hit FA.

so just hand him the key to the starting QB basically, since he's so proven and reliable...
