The Texans will begin auditioning other players to return kickoffs after discovering that Pro Bowler Jerome Mathis has suffered a stress fracture in his foot. The second-year player likely will undergo surgery within the next few days. Sports Radio 610 said he will miss up to 4 months and likely the first 4 games of season.

Horrible news. He was our only Pro Bowler last year as a returner and there was talk about incorporating him into the regular offense. Terrible blow.

So I wonder who will step up. Buchanon? Duante? Payne?

OK, that last one was a joke.

This sucks. I was hoping he would do well.

Did they say how it happened?

Well, had they done the right thing and drafted Bush this would be completely irrelevant.

I still wouldn't pay Bush over 50 million to return kicks.

Go back and actually pay attention to Bush's numbers as a return man. Highly, HIGHLY pedestrian.

Does this injury have anything to do with the motorcycle accident? If so, **** you Mathis.

If not, well, that still sucks.

I think Mathis had a clause in his contract prohibiting riding motorcycles.
    What a dum-azz!

Heard on the radio yesterday that it has NOTHING to do with the motorcycle accident.

BTW, isn't "motorcycle accident" a pseudonym for.....well, something else? Am I the only one who laughs every time I see that phrase or am I just weird?

    Ride ride?

I'm not sure what it is a pseudonym for, as I've never heard it used any other way than the literal. You'll have to enlighten me.

I'll take Buchanon returning if he's still on the team.. or maybe a FA receiver/backup RB that only returns kicks. Seems like a lot of those guys are always floating around since they have no other position..

Sucks, but really, if we're planning on being competitive, our offense should be good enough so that we won't hafta rely on Jerome getting us past the 50 ;) I mean it'd be nice and all, but this isn't a make-or-break thing (that it woulda been last year)

Well, considering that the season was pretty much broken even with Mathis making the pro bowl as a returner, I guess it was break-or-break.
