So, this is likely at best a two or two and a half man race although I don't think you can discount the guy I'm calling the half in this scenario. Simple question, who is the best pro athlete in town? JJ Watt - Possibly GOAT at this pace, hands down? Jose Altuve - An argument can be made, can't it? Deandre Hopkins - Proved he can do it alone, creeping on best in league? James Harden - Great scorer but does he belong in the conversation? Carli Loyd - I dunno, I got nothing Carlos Correa - Potentially?
Altuve is having an amazing season, but I want to see him play at an MVP level for another year before I put him ahead of Watt and Harden. He was great prior to this year, but nowhere near this good. Harden would have been number 1 last year, but he's coming off an extremely disappointing season. He also has the advantage that superstars in the NBA are more valuable than stars in any other sport. Regarless of Watt's injury, until proven otherwise, he's the best professional athlete in Houston. He's possibly the best pro athlete in his sport. Altuve is a close second. Question: Is Altuve already better than Biggio was? Thoughts on Harden: Despite the lack of defense and a strange disrespect across the league (not even THIRD all NBA???), Harden is a stud. He put up numbers last year (in an "off" year) that only a handful of NBA players have done ever...and they were better numbers than some MVPs have had in their years. If he can get back to play SOME defense, I think he challenges Altuve for second best behind Watt. EDIT: I always like Basketball Reference's "Similarity Scores". What does "best" mean? Watt is a once in a lifetime talent, but that hasn't necessarily translated to success for the Texans Even with his down year, Harden has consistently been a top 10 player and led the Rockets to the playoffs every year
This season is better than any season Biggio had, but Biggio played at an elite level for multiple years, this is Altuve's first elite season.
Totally agree with this part. Watt is an all-timer, and up until this point, Harden isn't. As an outsider, I'd rather have Watt on my fb team than Harden on my bb team.

I'm not arguing with you...Biggio was excellent for many years, but Altuve has been putting up elite numbers for 3 years now. He had 225!!!! hits and 56 SBs in 2014. That's legit. Granted, this year is a step up. He's on pace for more hits and his OPS is way higher. BTW, Biggio has over 200 hits only once in his entire career, which kind of surprised me.
Biggio in his prime walked literally 2x as much as Altuve does prior to this year, that's why his OBP was so much higher than Altuve's despite less hits. Now if the question was Altuve vs. Biggio as this point in their career, Altuve has been better, he just hasn't been as good as peak Biggio over multiple years...yet. Altuve's last 2 seasons would have been bad years by peak Biggio's standards.

I have only heard of two names on your list. One is James Harden who is by far the best pro athlete in Houston today and has been ever since he came here and it's not even close. Leading his team to the playffs every season in Houston shows that. Multiple all star, MVP caliber seasons, Gold medal etc The other name I have heard is JJ Fatt who is the worst out of the bunch ( i don't know the others but I am sure they're better than Fatt) Fatt is an over-rated, unathletic loser who leads his team to 30-0 blowouts defeats at home and leads them to missing playoffs so often. JJ Fatt is the same as Donald J Trump - Both are obnoxious fake leaders, narcisstic individuals who lie to the media to attract their delusional fanbase. What they do or have done is distant from the empty lies they put across. As for the rest, I have never heard of them. Who the F are they? Do they play a real sport?
