Apple pay should debut sometime today. Any iPhone users that plan on using it? Think it will stick around and begin to gain steam?

I'm interested in giving it a try. I worry about the security as well but Apple seems to guarantee the card information won't be availabe on your phone.

I could see hooking my credit card to it but probably not my debit card for my checking account.

As far as I can tell, it's the same thing as Google Wallet. I imagine adoption of mobile payments will continue on as before, but people using iPhones will use Apple's product instead of Google's. It looks like a me-too product, but maybe Apple can accelerate adoption of mobile payments if they're better at marketing it.

it is the same. use it everywhere it's available. glad iOS adpoted it. like you said, it means more places where google wallet will work. haven't had any security issues thus far.

I'll take a wait-and-see with it...and that goes for NFC payments in general regardless of OS. I think Apple Pay has a better chance of catching on than Google Wallet, Softcard, etc...mainly due to marketing. In theory, it should be more secure than physical credit cards - especially the ones with the magnetic stripe (which is outdated and is being phased out anyway). Visa and Mastercard seem to have confidence in the technology, which helps. But security is only as good as its weakest link. Hopefully that link is still strong.

that has been proven to be the case.

    true

but for payments not initiated by the iphone, such automatic renewal / monthly payment (utilities co, cable co, etc.) request by merchants can be problematic.

because they're not initiated by iphone, Apple rejects it and then ask you to confirm that it is legit.
upon confirmation, you then have to call the merchant to re-sumbit payment agian. it's a hassle

"Apple Pay is increasingly becoming the go-to payment method for consumers and businesses alike," TradingPlatforms.com's Edith Reads noted.

"The fact that it has now processed more transactions than Mastercard is a testament to its popularity. Already, it has outdone Mastercard with only Visa remaining on top. Apple Pay has an undue advantage and
benefits from their monopoly on iPhone NFC hardware. We expect to see Apple Pay continue to grow in popularity and market share in the coming years.”

Users have deposited more than $10 billion into Apple savings accounts launched in partnership with Goldman Sachs. yet,

talks with American Express are underway for Amex to potentially take over the Apple Card partnership. This move could provide Amex with a greenfield opportunity, especially considering
the potential synergy between Amex's target demographic and the tech-savvy, younger Apple users.

Mobile pay is being rapidly adopted by Gen-Z. Millennials are cool with NFC chips in the cards. Boomers still wondering if they should keep their check book in case of an emergency. (the answer is no!)

The Ottoman Empire tried Dick and Pay, but it didn't gain any traction.
