    Hey Clutchfans,

This is my first post as a member, I do apologize if this isn't on par to the expectations of a good post on this great forum.

Just like many of you out there, I'm very excited about the possibly of melo being shipped to clutch city. I cannot think of anybody else with a relatively superior or complete offensive game in this league than Melo.

At the same time, I'm not sure if he is the right fit with this team.
Is Melo the final piece of the puzzle or are we too hungry for an all-star?

Is it really necessary for us to have 3 scoring-oriented perimeter players?
Sure, Brooks+Martin+Melo can get us to the line and score ~60-90 points every single night. But no one is sure if their offense is good enough to compensate their weakness in defense. Will free throws + getting the other team/key players into foul trouble compensate for it? If Melo comes, do you think we have too much offense than it is necessary?

Will Anthony bleed rockets red? A.k.A is he the right fit for our culture?
Will Anthony give us his best on a nightly basis? Is he the type of player who will play his heart out? Is he an unselfish player?

Will he be able to adapt to Adelman's system after playing 7 years in a semi-run&gun / iso-play environment?

Most importantly, can he emerge as a disciplined individual with a certain degree of leadership in a rockets uniform?

How do you think we'll get Melo here? Either Brooks or Martin is probably going to go out for Melo.

He doesn't have to be the last piece, we can add moar.

Having Melo here would make us a more attractive place for a guy like CP3.

I'm assuming the optimal outcome, if we keep Brooks and Martin.
    (Battier + Jeffries + Picks)

Either way, Yao is still one of our offensive weapons.
So we still have an overload of scorers.

If that ideal deal was to happen, which I doubt. You could always flip a Brooks or Martin in order to get help at a position of need.

But lets face it we're talking about the houston rockets, somebody will get hurt and be out for an extended period of time (Looking at somebody in particular....) so we wouldn't have the overload of scorers, more than likely at least one of them would be in street clothes come playoff time.

I doubt the ideal is going to happen too.
But is there another solution to the problem?
I know everyone is really Melo-obsessed at the moment (including myself), but is he really the allstar we need? or is there someone of a better fit.

All-Stars aren't free for the taking.. If someone can score 25+ppg and you have a chance to get him, you get him. You can't just pass on an All-Star and go find another one. There's not many to choose from that are available.

Even if the allstar's arsenal does not fit with our culture and system and would cost us a load of assets + a max contract?
(I'm not pointing this at Melo, but in general)

Sure you can. If you take the wrong one, it's just as bad as not having any. The only difference is you're not locked into paying the wrong guy max money.

All-Stars, or guys that produce like one, aren't that rare in the league. Every team has one, while some have multiple. The rare kind are the superstars, and there are really only a small handful of those - two are in Miami, btw.

When was the last time a team won a championship with a point guard as its best player?

So by your logic, we should stick with crappier PGs. Interesting.

It worked pretty well for Isaiah and Magic.
