Is this good news or bad news? I need commentary.

 

This is good news.

 

Actually sounds like Plan A "capture and interrogate" failed, and they had to go to Plan B "kill him." Which likely means this was a very dangerous operation that put the troops in a sticky situation and they had to start shooting.

You think the leader of ISIS was worth a dangerous, covert assassination operation? Doubtful, thus Plan A was to capture him and bring him back. Didn't work.

If we were so concerned about Abu Sayyaf was running the ISIS oil money operations, then why not just take out the oil fields fueling their revenues? We don't have to destroy the refining operations (which would be messy and take a long time to restore), just cut and cap the pipelines to the ports. It seems that a relatively few soldiers could then guard the breaks. Since I obviously am not an expert in oil operations, where am I going wrong?

Have we extracted any information from Mrs. Sayyaf yet? Will she be sent to the Sandals at Guantanamo?

 

This is probably about as effective as the never ending "successes of killing the number two men in Al Qaeda or the current head of whatever cartel in Mexico.
