Rockets Sign Johnson and Request Waivers on Mitchell

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed guard Geron Johnson and requested waivers on forward Akil Mitchell.

Johnson (6-3, 203, Memphis), appeared in 67 contests at Memphis University holding career averages of 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 28.3 minutes. An Ohio native, Johnson spent his junior and senior season as a Memphis Tiger after transferring from Garden City Community College (KS). In his senior season at Memphis, he guided his team to a 2014 NCAA Tournament win over George Washington.

Mitchell (6-9, 230, Virginia), appeared in 133 contests and held career averages of 6.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists as a Virginia Cavalier. He was a participant on Houston’s Las Vegas and Orlando Summer League teams, but has not appeared in a preseason game.

I guess if one Johnson is not good enough, just get another one.

    Geron > Nick ???

Yes that's the point. If he's signed and then waived, the Rockets retain his D-LEAGUE rights.

D-LEAGUE is the only thing you need to know about this signing.

To get him to RGV for development. This is a player that has Beverley defensive potential. Extremely athletic and strong with high endurance and long arms. Has tremendous defensive potential. Morey probably gave him $50,000 or so to sign a contract and get him to RGV after we release him for development. Then if he starts showing a little something and we move Bev as part of a bigger PG deal, you've got him simmering at RGV waiting for an opportunity with the big club to come in and provide 94' of hell after Bev is gone.

It might be just me but I guess Canaan will be gone before Beverley.

Very possible. Or both could be gone at the same time.

Holy crap! The behind-the-back dunk was effortless!

Here goes Morey just finding starting PGs out of nowhere. Dude probably farts PGs.
