This year- there are 4 teams with 2 first round picks Chicago ( 2 & 11), NOK ( 15 &17), NJ (24 & 25) and NY ( 21 & 27) If we can convince NOK to part with their 15th pick ( that may get better!) and a Second rounder for Stro- I think that would work well for us. Logic is that NOK wants a Big man who is athletic ( Shelden will not be available for either of their picks) Let us be realistic- Stro is not going to be a starter on this team unless the Coach Changes- And I think we need to Give JVG more time. We Pick a Starting PF ( Shelden Williams- because I think LaMarcus will not be available- and Tyrus is risky). Worst Case Shelden still comes off the bench ( for a lower salary)- if he works out, then we have a Solid PF who has IQ for JVG to mold. We use the Other First Round to get a good SG- not necessarily a starter but someone who gets solid skills ( better than Luther Head). With the 2 Second Rounders- we pick Mike Gansey and A Taquan Dean/Denham Brown/ White ( This is will be a specialist shooter role) We use the MLE for starting SG ( Bonzi or Harpring) and The other near 4 million exception for a Solid PG ( Speedy Claxton to compete with Rafer for starting job). SAM I AM for the other smaller Exception if we have it! ( just would be nice to have a guy like that on the team). Bonus- we get a Medical exception for Bob Sura. Then we sign Bogans for a back up role ( Sorry Chucky we are running out of spots)- We basically buy out RYbo and clear up a spot.No more experiments with OLD players with a history of injuries. No V SPAN this year!
Why would any team give up two draft choices for a player that's failed to deliver on two teams and can't start for a last-place team? I doubt very much that you could get even a low first-round pick for Stro at this point.
It doesn't seem like the Hornets are that interested in Stro anymore. I think Jersey would be a better target. They might go for Stro and our 2nd rounder for 2 #1s, Padgett, and Cliff Robinson. That deal works capwise and NJ might covet our high 2nd rounder more because there aren't any guaranteed years or dollars, and they are quite over the cap.
I would love for all that to happen, but I just can't see JVG opting for 4 rookies on this team. The rockets very own lottery pick, plus a very high second round pick is probably to much for JVG to begin with. The dood has no patience.
If NO wanted Stro they would have made him a better offer than the rox did when they had cap space in the offseason. Or actually, they would have made him an offer period. I don't think Stro has done anything this season to make NO actually want him this time around either. I don't think any team would give up a significant 1st rounder for Stro. Would most likely be able to get a late 1st or decent vet swingman for him. MLE isn't enough to get Bonzi. Harpring isn't quick enough to play sg, even when he was healthy. Would be a nice backup but probably wouldn't come here. The "other" 4 mill exception you are talking about is most likely the trade exception, and the hornets aren't going to trade speedy away to a rival for nothing. Most likely that exception expires without ever being used. Any medical exception for Sura would be extremely small and not really worth mentioning. That's a lot of far-fetched dreamcasting in there.
Not starting on a Team does not necessarily mean that the palyer has no skills. NJ was willing to take on Stro-and so would NOK ( because their own First Round picks will not get them a PF that can fit in Immediately. That gives Stro a way out- and we get our needs filled. I was happy Duke Lost- else Shelden Williams would not even be a possiblity for us. Thank Go Tyrus is getting all the attention now- hopefully a decent SG will fall ( not named Reddick)
And you sir are NO NBA Nostradamus! So STFU and post your alternatives instead of Just dissing everyone on everything
Anyone know anything about JVG's ability to develope Rookies? I cannot say that he has ever had to face that as a part of the job. NY were all old school and so has the rockets for the most part Rocket River
Of course, they were also willing to take on Marc Jackson. No one in the league is more desperate for bigs. I agree though, that NO would be a fantastic fit for Stro. No one is - but everyone is free to give their 2 cents. No matter what you or I or anyone else posts, someone will probably diss it. No need to get upset about it. In regards to Stro would succeed if it weren't for JVG banishing him, keep in mind that Hubie Brown and Mike Fratello did the exact same thing with him. Stro's had 4 coaches and all 4 decided that he wasn't going to work as a starter. A medical exception would be equal to have the player's due salary - in Sura's case, that would give us ~ 1.5 mill to sign a FA with. It'll be a moot point, though, IMO, because if Sura can't play come Nov he'll most likely retire (gives us zero cap relief or exceptions since he'd be less than a year from completing his deal). Evan
Stro Joined Rockets because Tracy made a big Pitch for him- he could have got a lot more, but he chose to play here. If they were willing to go with Steven Hunter- I dont see why not Stro. Their Offense is not as structured as JVG's. I was suggesting a 15th pick- I am not sure what your definition of a "sginifcant First rounder" would be? ( In my opinion that would be top 10 or 12) Speedy Is a Free Agent. He signed a 3 year deal with golden state in 2003 and was traded to NOK. I am not sure what NOK can do about it if we offer him a chance to compete for a starting role? Bonzi - IMHO- will take the MLE. SG these days are that difficult to find and there are a ton of options in the Free agency. THIS is a starting role. Even if it is a small one- I would rather have a deeper benh
okay dood. I agrees. NOK so gives up the 15 for a backup to David West. Rox win the lotto. Pick Aldridge. Trade the 15 to GS for Pietrieus. Trade McGrady for KG plus their number 9 pick. trade the number 9 for Ben Gordon. sign radmanovich with the MLE. OMG mah teams so much better than urs!!! Yao/Dike/bowen Aldridge/Juwan/bowen KG/radman/bowen Pietrus/Wesley/bowen Gordon/Alston/Moochie/bowen U SUCK LOLZ!!!
I would trade Stro away for a first rounder in a heart beat. I don´t think he figures into long term plans and I don´t think we can get any decent player for him. The only thing better than multiple picks would be moving up in the draft. Maybe we could send stro for a draft pick, package that pick with our pick this year and our pick next year (which should be a better draft) for a really high pick this year. Maybe Portland would take it, they need a lot of new guys anyway because they are going nowhere fast.
IF it is starter- we could trade up. But after the Eddie Griffin experiment I really dont have the guts to suggest that. Those Poweforwards look good ( I was more impresed by Glen "baby" Davis- than Tyrus ( who basically looks like Stro in college!)
There's a lot of far fetched dreamcasting that we are going to find our 3rd primary scoring piece that is going to come in next year and start on a Van Gundy team straight out of college and it's going to be an underclassman with less than 4 years of college experience. Talk about silliness. What are you guys thinking? And all that in a draft that will be the weakest in the last 20 years???? The SGs and swingmen in this draft...none of them (including Gay and Morrison) has a chance of starting for the Rockets next season and being a significant asset, much less a 3rd primary scorer. Have you forgotten what Van Gundy said about Luther Head? The only reason he got minutes was because of all the injuries, not because he had earned them. And that is a player with great attitude that has given everything he can on the floor. But today, if Sura and Wesley were healthy, Head would be riding the pine, you guys know that. At the very best, if we drafted a top notch swingman in the form of Gay or Morrison, they may start to see more than 10 minutes a game after the All-Star break. And if we draft players like Roy, Reddick, or that kid from Memphis with that awful jump shot, the best we could hope for is for them to finally learn the system by the end of the year and contribute off the bench. You guys need to understand. We do not have a developmental team like Portland and New Orleans. Our window is opening....NOW. With the emergence of Yao and the questionable health of McGrady it is altogether evident that we have to get the 3rd primary scorer on the floor by training camp next year and he needs to be an established NBA veteran with 3-6 years of experience. We will not draft a swingman or SG with a high first round pick and start him and make him the 3rd option on this team. It's just not gonna happen. There ain't none of them good enough to be that kind of player on this team. They are just this year's group of top athletes that the NBA is full of. It's just not Van Gundy's style.
New Jersey would be our best bet in trading Stromile. The Nets need a live body at the power forward spot. Stro isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but Kidd can get him the ball and he should do OK there. I'm too lazy to check: Moochie's TE would help, but wouldn't we have to take a contract like Boki's + one of the first rounders? It would make more sense if Ric Bucher was right about the Rockets looking to trade TMac for KG. Otherwise, we'd trade for lower first rounders only to bait the hook in another trade or just if JVG absolutely has no more tolerance for the ibuprofen he takes to get Stro out of his system.
Check my post above. Stro for Padge + Cliff Robinson works capwise. Then just add draft picks to even out the deal. I think NJ might go for: Stro 2nd rounder from NY (#31-32 overall most likely) For Two 1st rounders (both in the 20's) Padgett Cliff Robinson.
This would leave us with three 1st-rounders. Then all we would have to do is trade up for Rudy Gay and it would be you-know-who all over again......
