They really need to institute pre-draft physicals. It's ridiculous to have to wait until after you have already made an important choice to find something like this out.
He's a kid who has been told he's a rockstar all of his life. I imagine being told you aren't perfect at that stage would make many people uncomfortable. Again, I see so many people complaining about the way we handled it but have yet to see any explanation of how we SHOULD have handled it. Without pre-draft physicals, I imagine this process would have gone similarly with many teams.

Someone should ask Rosenthal why Lowrie, Neshek, Gregorson, Correa, Appel and others why they didn't have any problems with how the Astros handled talks. More than likely the Astros were brutally honest.
LOL So.. they Astros fears turn out to be justified. F**k it, we can still turn this into a way to criticize to Astros front office.
As Astros fans we are gonna have to learn to be thick skinned boys, our front office is cocky and handles things differently than most others...we are gonna get negative press because of it Hopefully, our front office really is better than everyone else, like they come across. In the end, it won't matter how cocky they are and how much they piss off certain players, agents, and media. It will come down to can they make the correct draft picks, trades and free agent signings. That will determine how good we become. But as for how we are gonna be viewed, it's not gonna be pretty so get used to it

Sorry for the kid and hope he makes a full recovery. HOWEVER.... I believe Jeff Luhnow and his medical staff will take everyone's apologies over coffee and donuts in the morning.
Though I appreciate the fact he didn't continue to throw the Astros under the bus, his article still rubs me the wrong way. It comes off smarmy and a bit douchey. Ooooh they were smart. He can't pitch next year AND he doesn't have a multi-million dollar contract. Real smart. Pretty sure Appel didn't put out a press release saying his refusal to agree to terms with Pittsburgh was the best thing for his career (even though he did go on to get an additional $2.7m in the draft). Dafuq? People sneak away from third world island nations in ****ty boats to have the opportunity to play MLB and you're sad that you can't surf?
If the Red Sox made a decision like ours, they would be praised after the fact of the pitcher needing surgery. The GM and medical staff WAS RIGHT and still willing to pay millions on the kid. Rosehthal, how in the world you can say no one wins???? I only see one loser here, and is a pity because we dont want injuries especially on young kids, but the reality is that Astros were concerned, and the were RIGHT to be.
Wow this seems like it should be a huge story. There was a lot of **** directed toward the astros and they were completey right.
Depressed? No. Humbled? yes. Nothing screams 'looking on the bright side' like self-publishing an article saying he was right about making a multi-million dollar wrong decision....
Kind of glad at least one team in Houston has a great medical staff. Well, I don’t truly believe the Texans and the Rockets somehow have inept doctors despite all the injuries they’ve suffered. But still, kind of glad the Astros doctors prevented what could’ve really been a franchise changing pick. Also glad this came before the draft. Especially important because it was said that Aiken’s agency represents 7 of the top 15 prospects in this draft. Takes away some of the negotiations bad blood from last year.
