I need some suggestions on troubleshooting this. First, the xbox was purchased in Summer 2006, so its been just over 3 years. Last week or so, its been freezing after a period of play. I had it on for a long time a couple weekends ago, and when I played it the following day, it would freeze after a few minutes. I didn't touch it the last week, but played it last night for a good 4-5 hours with no problems. Today morning, after about 15 minutes or so, it froze again. There's no red rings showing up, or any other indicator lights. My guess is its overheating. But I never had that problem before, and the setup is the same as its always been. I have it laying flat on a glass stand, underneath by television. Is it better to stand it upright away from the TV?? Should I put a fan behind it as well? I'd rather not have to spend money on another xbox, but then again my HD is only 12.5 GB, and I think the new ones are like 120 GB. So maybe I should go ahead with that, but $300 is a lot of money. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Mine gave me similar problems. I took my 360 elite down to the flea market on airtex, and for only $25, they let me set my system up in the middle of their Mexican wrestling ring, and I did a atomic elbow off the top rope. Never gave me that problem again.
not sure, you're just gonna have to see. i was pretty sure my warranty was up, but when i called they said they would replace it for free so i didnt ask any questions. you keep reading how they extended their warranties, honestly, i think they just replace for free no matter what just to keep customers happy, no one i know who has had the RROD has ever had to pay for a replacement, maybe someone on here has...
I wish there was a way for me to speed up the process of it getting that RROD, then. It's frustrating to play a game and it to freeze at random in the middle.
They extended the warranty to only 3 years, but you might want to try anyways. Go here if or when you get the rings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907534
turn it so its standing vertical, put it in a closed space with not much ventilation i guess might help
If you live in houston, i have a guy that will fix it for $60. He can also mod it out for another 40 if you want to play burned video games.
Mine showed some weird crazy colors and later that week ANA chip died. It was graphic chip or something and my XBOX was very young, 11 months or so and one day I turned it on and it showed E74 error. Since I modified my console before I tried to repair it but failed and I just threw it into garbage. RIP you peace of ish.
