This guy is fantastic. Everyone hated on him early on in the season but he did more than expected and required. I would love to have him back for 15 minutes a game.
Maverick fans, are you ready for a Jason Terry reunion? Since they got the thumbs-up from free-agent center DeAndre Jordan, which instantly turned their summer into a massive success story, the Mavericks have had conversations with Terry and his camp about returning to Dallas, where he spent half of his 16 NBA seasons and helped win the 2011 championship. Such a move would put a nice bow on Terry’s career, bringing him back to Dallas for a victory lap. And he also would likely join Devin Harris as off-the-bench instant-offense weapons. Terry finished last season as the Houston Rockets’ starting point guard when Patrick Beverley was injured. He helped the Rockets reach the Western Conference finals and averaged 9.2 points and shot 35.4-percent from 3-point range in the playoffs. The thinking for the Mavericks is that Jordan can cover up so many defensive liabilities that having Terry, never known as a strong defender, makes sense, even though he will be 38 when next season tips off. The possibility of adding Terry was the most intriguing news on a Sunday that ended up being pretty busy for the Mavericks. They agreed to a two-year contract (no options) with Jeremy Evans, who has played his first five seasons with Utah. Evans was a second-round pick out of Arkansas in the 2010 draft (55th overall) and has played sparingly for the Jazz. But if you extrapolate his numbers, he has averaged 12.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per 36 minutes played. The Mavericks view him as an Al-Farouq Aminu starter kit, hoping he can guard both forward positions. Although he has a slender build (6-9, 200 pounds), he is regarded as supremely athletic. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-mavericks/headlines/20150705-sefko-are-you-ready-for-a-jason-terry-reunion-mavericks-have-reached-out-to-guard.ece
I hope Jason will resign. He has been a consummate professional and the relationship has been beneficial between the team and Jason. If he does leave, I wish him and his family the best but hoping he sticks around with the Rockets for at least one more go around.
I really, REALLY hope we bring him back... You won't find a better insurance option for your backcourt. He's battle-tested, tough, plays better defense than people give him credit for and is an emotional leader. There's literally no downside to having him on your team.
I'll take him for the vet minimum but I'm not sweating it if he leaves. I don't see him leaving unless Dallas offers him a no-trade clause along with a built-in role with their coaching staff after he retires.
Well, Cuban is an owner and Morey is a GM, so there's that. Cuban also has had, what, the 2nd or 3rd highest win percentage in the league since he has been an owner? Oh, he's got a ring, too. Morey got a team out of the first round, though, so he's well on his way.
Terry does live in Dallas, so he might head back. Hopefully we keep him in Houston, I don't wanna see Terry wearing Blue again.
The Jason Terry situation is somewhat interesting. At the moment the July Moratorium ends, the Rockets will (likely) be considered a "taxpayer" team for 2015-16 (on a TEMPORARY basis only), largely because of Terry's cap hold ($8,775,470). Of course, Terry is not going to get a contract that high, so that figure will come down substantially once he re-signs with Houston (or will be removed completely if he signs elsewhere). The immediate issue, however, is that until Terry is either re-signed or renounced, the Rockets will be subject to the more stringent salary-matching rules imposed on taxpayer teams for trades. This will make it harder to trade for that new PG or to otherwise upgrade the roster. This problem may exist (to a lesser degree) even without Terry's cap hold on the books once Brewer and Beverley sign their new contracts. Terry also remains an interesting sign-and-trade candidate if the Rockets have any other big-time, max or near-max players they want to pursue. In order to accomplish that, the Rockets need to keep Terry on the books. However, with Aldridge agreeing to sign with the Spurs, I think a Terry sign-and-trade is highly unlikely. So, to the extent that Terry wants to make more than the vet minimum (for him, still a robust $1.5M for next season), he and the Rockets will probably need to agree on a new deal BEFORE a big trade is made. Otherwise, the Rockets will probably renounce his rights and look to re-sign him on a vet minimum deal. Obviously, the Rockets could still freely trade within the taxpayer salary-matching rules without having to do anything with Terry. But this is at least something to think about.
http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nba/dallas-mavericks/article26665702.html I would hate Jason Terry All over again
Did you even bother reading the article? Terry will probably re-join the Mavs and he prefers doing so.
I didnt know the mavs signed Jeremy Evans...that article said he signed a 2 yr deal for the veteran min.
Although I respect Cuban and his story, Cuban was blessed to start his tenure as the owner with Dirk and Nash already on the team. If you ask me, 10 years was far too long to get a ring considering what he started with. We all know what Morey had to go through when he started his tenure. The injuries to Yao and TMac didn't stop the Rockets from having great success in the memorable 2009 playoffs. Then we had to rebuild while losing both of our marquee stars while obtaining the 14th pick for 3 straight years. Somehow Morey took that situation and 5 years later, we're in the WCF against a historically great GSW team with two of our own starters out. Morey>Cuban.
