Spaceport to be built at Ellington Field?

Hey dummies -- they're not going to be launching massive rockets in Clear Lake -- they're going to do Virgin Galactic type sub-orbital flights (if anything).

Start at about 3:25; it appears that they will fly over the gulf, as opposed to what you are saying.

I'm not too familiar with commercial spaceflight, are westward equatorial launches typical? Your argument makes sense and the presentation may just be conjecture.

Also, that rendering looks gorgeous!
I hope the final product maintains the focus and easy tourist access implied. Considering the location, its not difficult to imagine huge crowds for launches and such.

So much wrong in this thread. I love how people can crap all over something without having any actual knowledge and understanding on the subject matter. 'Merica!!!

These are NOT platform launches. Spaceport will use "Air Launch to Orbit" method and launches will occur far out over the Gulf of Mexico. In fact it is currently illegal in the US to have vertical launches from space ports.

hell, even back in the day we at least got the blue angels or thunder-birds.

 

The performers listed below were previously announced and scheduled to appear at Wings Over Houston 2013 and are currently pending. The sequestration portion of the federal 2011 Budget Control Act mandates $500 billion in across-the-board defense spending cuts during the next 10 years. The federal sequestration mandate has currently reduced the military budgets, forcing a halt to all military appearances and performances at airshows through the end of the current military fiscal year – September 30, 2013.

It is not known at this time if any of them will be available to appear by our airshow dates in the new fiscal year starting October 1st.
