I predict tonight's game will be the highest-rated MLB Wild Card game ever.

Ratings out of Indy and everywhere else other than Houston and KC - probably high for a football game.

In Houston and KC - probably pretty low.

You do realize how ridiculous the Nielsen rating system is, right? It is a polling system that pays its respondents to use it. So basically you limiting your study population to people who will likely have the TV on anyways.

On top of that its sample size is worse than those Gallop polls. For example, they have meters in about 1300 homes in the New York City area. For reference, the New York City area has about 7.4 million homes with television sets (Nielsen). This means that Nielsen monitors about .02% of homes in this area.

Even despite the flaw of rating systems, there was NO other sports events like night. Okay maybe WNBA and preseason basketball.

Lastly, I would guess more then 2/3% of any sports/baseball fan either likes the Yankees or wants to see them lose. They are on the same level as the Cowboys, Patriots, Lakers, or Heat (when Lebron was there).

So sure in that small sample of viewers, last night's game broke a record. It doesn't mean that there is a huge Astro baseball following. I'll pay attention if the Houston-Kansas City game does as well...
