Adam Schefter (via WhoSay): "Eagles have been shopping CB Asante Samuel in recent days, according to NFL sources around league. Eagles looking to make trade before draft."

    * Would you consider giving up a first round or second round pick for Asante?
    * Would the Kub/Wade consider making this kind of trade?
    * Is Asante worth it?

Imagine Jonathan Joseph and Asante Samuel as starting CB's for the Texans ...

I was hoping he was who we traded Demeco for. To my understanding, he is too expensive for the Texans' plans of re-signing their own future FAs

1st or 2nd?! More like a 5th and Samuel would have to restructure his contract(insert joke here), although he would reportedly be willing to do so. That said, very unlikely he ends up here.

They'll probably wind up keeping Samuel and find a way to trade for Revis and sign Brees to backup Vick next year since the Eagles use the infinity cap cheat code.

No. We need to get younger, more cap friendly.

His cap hit this year wouldn't be all that bad if we traded for him, IIRC.

But his cap hit next year of 12.5 million is an absolute deal killer.

    That would cripple us.

The Eagles are in the same situation with him as we were with Demeco. Giant contract for a guy that doesn't fit into their scheme.

They'll probably end up settling for a 4th or 5th rounder (likely high 5th) for him. Tampa Bay seems like a possibility.

if Philly is forced to cut him, what do you think he would earn on the open market?

That would be 11M or so per year.

Considering this is a scenario we're considering where no one is willing to trade for him, I doubt they'd resign him to a deal that is almost exactly what he's already getting paid.

Texans aren't spending money on a starting CB. They aren't ready to come to terms about Kareem yet.

Whenever this is the case, interested teams will lowball (5th to 7th rd picks), because there's no sense in giving up an asset to take on a big base salary when they can just scoop him up post-waivers for dirt cheap.

It's a big reason why NFL is such a low-trade league.

Has nothing to do with Kareem. We can't afford a 12.5 million dollar luxury when we've got 4-5 key free agents to resign next year.

Waivers don't take effect until July 4th, IIRC. So he would be a free agent if he got cut.

It's both. We wouldn't take on $10+M for anyone right now. The FO also is not looking for a guy to supplant Kareem. They are determined to make him stick as a starter.

Then why did they take a guy off the trash heap (Jason Allen) and give him more reps than Kareem?
