Because pure shooters/3pt specialists have never been key contributors on playoff/championship caliber teams

Most of the time while Howard/Harden are on the court, they will be playing with Beverley and Ariza. Both of which are much, much better than Troy Daniels.

But I really like Daniels a lot. Yes, he might be a one trick pony. But that one trick he does very, very well. IMO good enough for him to get some time on the court, even if it is just 10-15 minutes a night.

Id like to see some spurts of small ball with harden/Ariza at the forwards and Daniels at the 2.

I thought it was quite odd MIA decided to keep their starters in during the 4th vs our reserves.

Do they not have young guys they want to look at, or are they trying to whip that old horse in race shape?

Last I checked the point of the game was to put the ball in the basket and according to Morey 3 pointers are about the most efficient way to do that. If you have an elite three point shooter you damn well better find him minutes.

I just wish Daniels could play more with Harden and Howard so he could punish the double teams.

Comparing Daniels to Dell Curry and Chris Jackson is pretty stupid. Both players could do so much more than what Daniels does on the court right now. And both players would play major minutes for this team.

This is like saying you should play Steve Novak because McBob or Spencer Hawes are rotation players.

    This thread is simply terrible.

Your hammering Troy Daniels, basically a rookie, for not shutting down a Dwayne Freaking Wade? If that's your criteria, we should just turn the league into a 3-on-3 black top And-1 competition.

I thought Clutchfaners were a little more robust than that. Internet has disappointed me, yet again.

Am I the only one who thinks Daniels looks to be putting in a good defensive effort? He's not Patrick Beverley - but he's not looking that bad to me on defense.

This. He isn't the most physically talented defender, but he definitely puts in the work. I have seen him get a hand on a pass or dribble pretty much every preseason game so far. I think the bigger issue with Troy, is that he doesn't seem to be able to play with the ball on offense. Which isn't necessarily terrible, but he will have to be on the floor with a creator at all times. The guy is an elite 3 point shooter though, and that is always going to earn you a spot on a roster. I am excited to see what he can do in a role this year, even if it is a fairly limited one.

I have stated it before, but I 100% agree. He knows his time on the court depends on his defense, so he is going all out. Milk Hairs doesn't agree I suppose.

Garcia is for the locker room, and 'spot' minutes when someone needs a 'Tudeh in his face.

    John Paxson
    Steve Kerr
    Mike Miller
    Eddie House
    Patty Mills

This is just a small snippet of guys that contributed to championship-winning teams that could be (or is) a "one-trick" pony.

You need guys like this to space the floor and you need guys like this that can hit the jumper because they shoot at a higher % than your work horses.

When Daniels drilled that 3 in the playoffs for us who outside of James Harden would you have had in that position?

Please share with us how you concluded that he's a poor defender.

(Since you provided no analysis with your conclusion)

he plays well enough defense , but the guy is a pure shooter. The more he plays then the better he will become at his defense.
He plays though because he can bring you back into a game, or build a cushion in a matter of minutes.
So yes he should get playing time.

Daniels is a player. I think he gets 12 min per game this season and averages almost 10 points a game. You cannot have enough players that can fill it up. He can also guard opposing PG's. I wish McHale had a clue.

Why is everyone acting like Daniels is a terrible defender?
For a good portion of the game he played admirable defense on Wade. I distinctly remember Daniels being isolated on Wade at least twice and he prevented Wade from scoring plus he forced at least one turnover. Clearly, he didn't stop Wade in clutch time, but I don't know why we would have Daniels guard an elite player in clutch time during a real game anyway (at least not yet).

Also, he puts good effort in chasing opposing players through screens. I see no reason why he should be buried in the rotation.

By the way, he shot 12/25 from three in the regular season last year, 8/15 in the postseason, and has shot 12/24 so far in the preseason. That's 50% on 64 shots. I don't think I need to point out how phenomenal that is.
