Maurice White, the co-founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, died Wednesday morning at age 74, The Associated Press reports.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the early '90s, forcing him to stop touring with the band in 1994. Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and are set to be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 15.

    Good lord :(

This year is only 35 days old and it's turning out to be a terrible year for some
of the biggest musical names from the 70's and early 80's.

Maurice and EWF took Funk and made it mainstream. He's up there with
James Brown, Sly Stone and George Clinton. Thank you for all of your music, I feel very grateful to have grown up with your songs playing on the radio.
Heaven just a got a lot more funky.

I didn't exist when they were at their peak but have always loved their music on the radio or on Pandora. Rest in peace.

    So sad to hear this.

EW&F, is (and always will be) one of my favorite bands of all time. Everytime I listen to them it takes me back to my high school days. The first time I saw them in concert was around '77 at the Summit. Maurice was the epitome of COOL.

Rest in peace Maurice, and thank you for all the wonderful memories your music has brought me over the yrs and will continue to do so as long as I am alive.

It doesn't get ANY better then "that's the way of the world".

Somehow, I just found out about this.

Naturally, I went straight to ClutchFans and yup... there was a thread.

Terrible news! Maurice White and David Bowie... make it stop!
