Could beat out Newton but not necessarily. Apparently another coaching staff is falling for the Newton gimmick.

They should just start 4 linemen with an ineligible receiver lined up wide, parallel to the linemen.

Left his best years in Atlanta but a warm dog turd could beat out Derek Newton so this is good news.

I'm optimistic about this. It shouldn't be hard to beat out Newton and anything is preferable to what we got from that side of the line toward the end of last season.

Should provide good competition for Newton. Clabo is an 8 year, 116 game starter and is a former pro bowler. 5 of his years in Atlanta overlap with OLine coach Paul Dunn so there's probably good familiarity there.

You guys have to keep in mind, the new coaching staff hasn't seen Newton in pads yet. I don't know if Clabo is the permanent answer but he is leaps and bounds better than Newton. I have no doubt that after watching Newton get rag dolled twenty minutes into Saturday's first hitting practice Newton will be firmly implanted onto the first cut list

    It's much better than, say, a 6.5, or even a 7.0.

Clabo can help this line real quick. He was let go by Atlanta because they felt he wouldn't work well when they began implementing the ZBS in the offense. He signed with MIA (which runs a ZBS) and struggled, but got much better after he acclimated to it. It didn't help that the rest of that o-line was complete and utter garbage. He's older, but I think that works out well considering the youth we'll have at LG and RG.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ben Jones pushes Myers out of the starting job either, he's extremely light to run multiple o-line styles. He's a pure ZBS guy. I wouldn't mind it either considering his contract.

Can they just sign Eric Winston already? No idea what winston has left in the tank, but he is likable and provides great quotes. and hes two years younger than this guy.

Wonder if he took exception to the texans when they cut him. Wouldnt be surprised.

    Found this interesting: http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4708357/eric-winston-vs-tyson-clabo

Apparently the Cowboys were looking at both last offseason. PFF had Winston ranked as the 9th best RT in 2012. They had Clabo ranked as the 5th.

It's also interesting that Winston was with Arizona last year and I guess they don't want him back, but they were trying to bring Clabo in. Might tell you what the Cards think about the two.

O'Brien has already proclaimed Newton the starter... He may have to backtrack on that.

The starter for camp. Pay close attention when O'Brien talks he never guarantees anything. The only thing he proclaimed was Fitz would start the season under center and even that was contingent on his performance in camp. Newton could be cut tomorrow, don't get it twisted

Wow, lot's of Derek Newton hate. Yes, he had a poor second half, but you don't know what kind of nagging injuries he was playing with. There was virtually no depth behind him. The kid is real athletic and showed flashes. A new coaching staff may be just what he needs. Clabo was brought in to be the swing tackle, an important position nonetheless.
