I have no quarrel with any of those picks. Cheap Trick and Steve Miller put on 2 of the more enjoyable concerts I've been to. Wish I'd been around to see Chicago back in their heyday, before "look, it's not even loaded..." Why isn't Little Feat in the HOF? Traveshamockery.
Well, that is an outrage. I will commence my campaign of mentioning their snub once or twice a year on this bbs whenever the HOF is brought up. I did that for years and it got Stevie Ray elected, so game on.
This is the song I fell in love to, in love with the majestic power of the Hammond B3 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/W1PNvopXjbg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Lee Michaels will never be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame but this maybe my second favorite Hammond B3 song. Since I'm on topic I wouldn't want you kids to never hear it. It's just 1 dude on the organ and his drummer only known as Frosty. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X7PpXSC1NN4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This has always been my favorite Cheap Trick song: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8UB9JwBemUA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If you want to get high, put on the headphones, and go off to another place, you turn to this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qGVOo_6nvhg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Or this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PfAWReBmxEs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
No issues with any of them. I was never a big Chicago fan but they do have some good stuff in their early days. NIN? I don't see it. I was a fan through the first couple of albums. Downward Spiral lost me.
Cheap Trick isn't as popular as Chicago or Steve Miller (or even The Cars, who didn't make the cut), but many bands love them and were influenced by them (well, in John Lennon's case, he asked them to back him up): <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9-fO3vCIOxA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oi_mAs7LVHU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CoAkqB7eRTs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/im3AUiCGqnk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It will be interesting to see who they're going to start inducting in a few years when they run out of commercial classic rock bands and the cream of the early 90s Alt-rock bands. The way I see it, they'll either actually have to start inducting some deserving 80s/90s alt rock bands that weren't very commercial (my hope), really bad 90s and beyond commercial rock bands, or just simply induct pop and hip-hop artists.
I agree- they were the pioneers of the New Wave movement- even before Blondie, Talking Heads, Devo, etc.- The Cars had THE big album- and all 4 after that were like greatest-hits records in themselves. Most know stuff like Just What I Needed (thanks, Target), Good Times Roll, etc. but my favorite Cars songs didn't get as much play: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mAyjRc9qffM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fRiGYz-ShGo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SpD3CDaE46k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Good to hear the song again. A cool intro with Jon Lord. (Now I gotta listen to Joe South version too.) Used to listen to this song to enjoy Lord's organ & moog sound. (R.I.P. Jon Lord) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nd7-PHdbCnE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I think the best hard rock vocals are from the late 60s & 70s. Gillan and Coverdale were two of the greatest. Actually surprised that DP haven't been inducted yet.
Wow.... The Downward Spiral, Fragile, and pretty much everything after that that Trent Reznor did was amazing. You need to give it a shot man.
