I'm trying to take some of the free courses offered by Monster.com and some of them require Shockwave from Macromedia. I went to the site to try and download it and I keep getting an error and it won't download. I'm running Windows 2000 in case that helps anyone solve this problem.

    Are you at work?

Do you have rights to install programs on your machine?

What do your error messages state?

I am at home trying to install this program.

    It gives methe following error:

Shockwave Error: 1 - An error has occurred while communicating with www.macromedia.com. The software installation was not completed. Please check your internet connection or try again later.

My internet connection is working fine and this has been happening all day.

Then it gives me this error:

Shockwave Error: 10 - One or more Shockwave files are missing. Would you like to go to Macromedia's website to repair your Shockwave player?

I click YES to go to the site where my only option is to try to download again and go through the same circle of events.

Shockwave provides an uninstaller under their support pages. I'd use that to get rid of any earlier versions (probably came bundled with your machine).

If that doesn't work, I'd uninstall it again, then upgrade your browser (overnight if you have a slow modem connection), then try to re-install it. I don't know if you're using Netscape 6, but they also say they don't support it's use with that browser yet.

The first error sounds like the connection, for whatever reason, to Macromedia is failing. Which could explain the 2nd error. Maybe Macromedia's server was getting overloaded and the connection craps out.

    Try again tomorrow.

Well, I've tried a few times over the past couple days and still can't get the damn thing to download.

    Any other suggestions?

the other thing you can do is just download the huge trial version of Macromedia Director. That is a compressed file, and should make it through your proxy.

Install Director...that is the program that makes Shockwave movies, and so of course, it installs the player for you.

    go here:

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, HP.

No I am not doing this through a proxy. I'm at home.

Thanks for the alternative, but a friggin 28 meg file just to get Shockwave?? There has to be another option because this fugger still won't download without those same errors.

    HELP!!!

    Pimp,

    Upgrade your browser, then.

imo, you have a strange browser problem, screwed up plug-ins, cookies, etc. Probably due to all those p*rn sites you go too.

seriously man. If you want to fix this, d/l the latest IE, uninstall your current IE, then reinstall it.

you can probably also email Macromedia for a version of Shockwave that you can install manually, rather than automatically via the web.

It must have been that picture of ZRB's mom that I downloaded that trashed my browser!

Actually I'm running IE 5.5. Oh well, I guess I'll give IE 6 Beta a shot.

Oh, I did e-mail macromedia and those pokey asses have yet to respond.
