Interesting bit of info in Marc Spears' latest Lin article:

I'm starting to really worry for Lin. He's a great player but more and more I feel like his signing was less of a basketball decision than what was represented. That's an unfair pressure to put on anyone especially a young guy like him.

    lol
"Lin made his name with the Knicks by scoring, not making anyone better. He is averaging a team-high 6.1 assists per game which ranked 19th in the NBA entering Friday. He had three against the Knicks."

lol someone show Spears Steve Novak's new contract....and look at Tyson Chander's stats during that time. Carmelo dropped 37 and they still got blown out, that's an example of scoring and not making anyone better

Still seems like speculation that keeping Livingston would have caused a PG controversy, but it adds a new wrinkle to why he was let go. I understand leveraging contracts for possible cap space flexibility, but he seemed too productive to not have his contract picked up. Still, where we're at with Harden is a much better situation.

i wanted to keep livingston and cut cook. taking a risk with lin, and having douglas and machado as your backup pgs, they should've kept livingston as well.

from what i heard it was cause his contract was 2.5mil. but that's not a steep price to pay to ensure a solid backup pg. they could've cut only 4 players and sent 1 to the dleague at the start of the season.

Snide speculation... it was financial, no way is someone let go for being too good. That makes no sense.

I was like WTF lol.Say what you want about lin now,but at that time ,lol

Based on Rocket's history it's not even surprising livingston was let go.
Now I prefer Livingston over TD,but it is what it is.

i do think a lot of people overestimate china's support for him.
Sure there'll be some, and he'll get the majority support from taiwan ,
but not all chinese warmed up to him for various reasons.
Not all rockets fans like him, same reasons as ours.

personally i think it's an entertainment because anybody can vote,
so I didn't get too fussy on that.

Livingston always had game but he suffered one of the worst injuries we've seen in a long time. And he was really on his way that season, if it weren't for the injury, he most likely would have been at least a starting point guard for somebody.

    Livingstone is awesome.

He was hired by Washington as starter.

    Better for him.

But his numbers wasnt good til now. (Much less the the PG backup).

    But he can improve.

What is Melo talking about? Sure, Harden and Parsons can take the pressure off Lin, but is he saying he, superstar Melo -- plus the DYOP, future HOFer Kidd, and best 3-pt shooter in the league Novak can't??

They are literally talking about different "pressures"

Harden is saying Lin is putting pressure on himself to play better

Melo's talking about media pressure I think

I was pulling for Livingston over Douglass, but he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire during pre-season.It could have gone either way, neither player really stood out that much from the other,so if it was contract/money then it's pretty reasonable to cut Livingston...besides,it's not Morey's style to just cut a player that could be an asset
