He will take the full max like every other player has when it's been offered.

Dummies should have signed him last summer for less when they had the chance.

imo this is a waaaaaaaay over-priced deal. players like him are nickels and dimes, sort of. but it seems max contracts now are a lot easier than say 5-10 yrs ago to be had these days.

At least he will be on a deal he considers fair and the Bulls basically are calling him a franchise player. He's worth more than what he was going to sign for last year anyway, so this at least lets the Bulls have a happy player getting what he wants in salary.

in my mind, there's just no way butler is a legit franchise player.

from letting go thib to offering this deal to butler, feels like the bulls are on a wrong track...

I certainly don't feel bad for Butler.

But since they royally screwed up by not giving him what he wanted last year, the Bulls have been smart this year.

Basically said Butler isn't going anywhere. I suspect they don't really want him to take the full 5 year and would be happy to sign a 3 year with him, but they had to offer the full 5 year in order to lock him up for at least three years.

If Butler signs a 1+1 type deal elsewhere, and the Bulls match, Butler is less tradeable, since he has the opt-out option.

At 3 years, he is tradeable, and once the cap goes up, very tradeable.

It's interesting that Butler is now considering taking the full 5 years.

He probably should negotiate a 3+1+1 offer, if that's possible... but the Bulls can of course just say no, go find that elsewhere... but who is going to sign Butler... nobody, they know the Bulls will match.

Bulls are my favorite EC team but I'll say it again: Rose and Butler have to make peace. Thibs couldn't/wouldn't address the problem and this is Hoiberg's #1 issue going into next season.

So much for that short term offer.
