If Sloan is smart, he will use Paul Millsap to front Yao. Yao always has trouble with strong and athletic players who are around 6'8" or 6'9" when they front him. Paul Millsap is 6'8", athletic and 245lbs. Al Harrington is 6'9", 245lbs, B. Diaw is 6'8", 230lbs.

It wasn't just the fronting that was getting to Yao. He was pretty much double and triple teamed much of the game.

If they do that Yao needs to be a beast on the boards. He needs to play tougher. there is a way to beat that kind of defense. Just stay aggressive and keep drawing fouls. Pretty soon you will have their whole front line in foul trouble.

that's because they have the perfect size to counter yao's high center of gravity and when they put their hand on his back they can get away with it because it's a natural defensive movement.

That's the problem. Yao is not good at offensive boards.

shane is the only one who didn't make his shots. it was turnovers that killed the team tonight, not the shooting. sorry, it was defense and turnovers.

yao is too slow to be able to get to loose balls before the other team's player does.

what JVG needs to do is run more back screens with Yao to get him open on the block

Who cares, Yao is going to slaughter then anyway. The postseason is different from a few regular season games.

Millsap isin't too fast or too smart, ala Chuckie Train.

Not the kind of player you want fronting Yao.

Can Yao pull out to shoot midrange jump? I did not see the play in today's game.

JVG is not programmed to allow high post plays involving Yao.

Prediction: Paul Millsap averages 6 fouls per game in the playoffs.

How do we reprogram him? :( Gundy let Yao shoot FTs, why not midrange jump? Yao is not a good offensive rebounder anyway. He can do Pick N roll with T-mac or Head, and take chances for his lethal midrange shooting.

A very significant statement!!!! I have often wondered why our guards don't penetrate and pass of to Yao as he moves in toward the basket. He would score often and 90% of the time he would draw fouls. This play would be quite effective in this type of game. Again 'JVG is not programmed to allow'.

I think your statement is quite true indeed, as long as u have a lower center of gravity, it is harder for opposing bigger players to squeeze into the post, that is why Yao is developing this fade away shot outside.

Agreed. When a guy is sandwiched with two defenders, it is on the rest of the team to make them pay for the strategy. Yes, there are some things Yao could have done better in terms of sealing off his man, but when the other guys are playing 4 on 3 they have to make the opposition pay. If they don't, teams will do it every night.

Amen! Also, where was the pick and roll tonight? T-Mac isn't the only guy Yao can run the play with. If Yao draws 2 on the pick and roll, the guard has a clear path to the basket. If not, he has opended a seam to catch the ball moving toward the basket. I wish JVG would be as creative on the offensive end as he is on the defensive side.
