Here's basketball-reference numbers for the two players
    Hasheem Thabeet
    Larry Sanders

What's interesting is that last year's Thabeet, for all intents and purposes, OUTPLAYED Sanders so far this year. Yes, the same Thabeet everyone knows to be unable to walk and chew gum at the same time. Thabeet was a better rebounder, block shots, and knew how to play within himself well enough to shoot a high percentage. While Sanders is better at not fouling every 2 seconds.

I believe there were some very enthusiastic Sanders fans here before and after the draft. Well, now you can just pretend Thabeet is Sanders a year from now, and go through the agony of watching a big man who's not really a basketball player at the moment.

    :)

Even Morey makes mistakes, I mean we did miss out on DeAndre Jordan, so we can draft a 6'7 Center/ Power Forward in Joey Dorsey...

I don't GAF about everybody else. THe fact of the matter is, we were looking for a big and we passed on Deandre. I love Morey as much as the next guy, but the fact of the matter is he dun goofed that one up.

I don't think it's the rookie year PER that people are critical of Thabeet for so much as it is that sophomore year PER...

You're talking about me and I never said drafting Patrick Patterson was a big mistake. Go back and read my post and get your facts straight or don't. Since summer league I thought Patterson would have more of an impact than Jordan hill. I was careful not to step on any Hill's fans but clearly I have been a PPat fan for a while.

I will admit not thinking much of Hill (which I also admitted to being wrong about) but Patterson I liked as soon as I saw him S/L. I said by season's end I thought he would be our back up PF. It seems I was correct. My biggest point with Sanders is he brought shotblocking from a big. Something we desperately needed and a rare commodity in this league. I thought Sanders was going to be a defensive specialist at some point.

By the way if you look at the per 36 for both Hasheem and Sanders, Sanders beats him in every category except fg%. Also if you watch the games there is no comparison between Hasheem and Sanders. Sanders is the much better defender and shotblocker. And it seems to me the Rockets would be happy if Thabeet could just learn to play defense.

Sanders was raw coming into the season but I still think he will become a solid defensive specialist. ANd he has a lot more upside than Hasheem or even Patrick for that matter. I liked Sanders over Patrick it is true. But once I saw Patrick in summer league I was less disappointed in the pick. Oh by the way who on this board thought Patrick would be as good has he is this quickly. If you say yes show it in a post in 2010. He has surprised me and I liked him since the summer. If I had to draft right now I would easily choose patrick. But Sanders will still be a player in this league whereas I wouldn't be as confident Thabeet. I have more confidence in Jordan Hill.

How can we watch Thabeet if he doesn't play?

Rookie Thabeet vs Current Sanders(Per 36 stat)

    Rebounding
    Thabeet: 3.5(offensive) 6.4(defensive) 9.9(total)
    Sanders: 2.5(offensive) 5.1(defensive) 7.6(total)
    Edge: Thabeet Solidly

    Blocks
    Thabeet: 3.6
    Sanders: 3.1
    Edge: Thabeet Solidly

If you want to look at offense and defense, here are their offensive and defensive ratings

    Offense Rating

    Thabeet 113
    Sanders 90
Edge: Thabeet, who is a nothing on offense, LOOKS LIKE KOBE compared Sanders. This is because Sanders shoots 41%. Yes, that's a number that got Rafer shipped out... and Rafer shot 3s.

Defensive Rating: Smaller is better for those not familiar
    Thabeet: 108
    Sanders: 99
Edge: Sanders is the better team defender.

PER For those who believe in it
    Thabeet: 12.9
    Sanders: 10.7
Edge: Thabeet is just better overall

Basically, I give you that Sanders play a bit better team defense. But when it comes to the "total package", Hasheem leaves Sanders in the dust.

Many players go through sophomore slumps. And Sanders isn't any less likely to not improve next year.

DeAndre Jordan was a malcontent on his college team as a Freshman who wouldn't listen to his coach. His production was inconsistent and no where near his hype, and due to both he lost time and minutes.

Sure he always had the potential to be good, but going into that draft, nearly everyone felt he was a number of years away and he had not shown the mental aspects you would hope to see in a project.

At the time, the Rockets need bigs who could have a more immediate impact, and less risky. Yes, Dorsey flopped, but at the time, his was the better bet and more likely for immediate benefit.

That was OMR, and although he said drafting PP was a mistake, he rather quickly changed his mind upon seeing PP play during games.

Why are you comparing Rookie Thabeet to Sanders? We didn't get the rookie Thabeet. We got the second year Thabeet. ANd Sanders statisitcally beats that Thabeet soundly. It's senseless to compare them this way. it would be like comparing the current Charles Barkley to PPAT but using his rookie stats knowing that rookie is long gone.

And those are just stats by the way. If you watch the real Sanders as a rookie is much better than the current Thabeet. he is more coordinated plays better defense and run like a gazelle. Plus everyone knows Sanders has alot more upside, having only started playing organized basketball at the end of his sophomore year of high school.

I can assure you Morey would trade Thabeet today for Sanders and I can also assure you the Bucks would never do that deal.

We used our pick to get Nicolas Batum. DM didn't "pass" on Jordan because he had no pick to pick him with. By the time our pick came around Jordan was already drafted.

I still want Larry Sanders; Patrick Patterson is a solid player and Sanders is a blocking machine. I would also like for the Rockets to pursue Hassan Whiteside or Sash Kaun. Thabeet is way more of a porject than any of these guys, but the scary thing is that he has less potential than Sanders and Whiteside at this point.

Because Thabeet hasn't played this year, I would assume.

What exactly did we miss out on Deandre Jordan??..maybe a few highlight plays but thats about it...Dont understand the "man crushes" so many people have for him..He's aight ,I guess ,but nothing to hinder Morey for...Thabeet is gonna be an overnight sensation..It'll click right before his contract expires...It always does!!
