A story about someone else meeting Clyde THE GLIDE Drexler

I heard that when Clyde coached UH he barely showed up and would even be late to games.

Here's my personal story though- I was watching the Rockets game and he said really goofy stuff broadcasting.

 

My best friend works for a TV station as a camerman in San Antonio.

Many years ago, while I was in town on business, he got me a press pass to "grip" for him (I think that's what it was called lol). During the post game interviews in the locker room, the reporter and my friend asked Clyde if he'd do a quick promo - saying something like "When I'm in San Antonio, I watch so and so" (their TV station).

Clyde, true to his rep, was so smooth and cool. He politely declined saying something like "I'd rather not, guys... 'cause it's not true, so I don't really do that", or something to that effect. It was a really classy way of declining, but he was cool as could be.

(but, I can verify it wasn't just coke in the cups Rudy used to drink out of during his post game interviews and press conferences)
