As long as suckers are willing to pony up hundreds of dollars for shoes made at a miniscule fraction of the cost just because there is a swoosh on them... oh well, suckers are born every day.

No wonder Nike can ask for such ridiculous prices.

Would be nice if other shoemakers could make a quality basketball shoe.

I couldn't imagine how ugly a KD Under Armour shoe would look, so no big surprise that Nike matched. They have the money to do so anyways. Wonder if LBJ gets a new Nike deal sometime down the line as well.

The sweatshop argument is kinda redundant. I agree with price inflation kind of being ridiculous as it's been over the last 5 years or so but you know what you're paying for when you buy these shoes and it's not for quality.

It's not for quality? I agree there's the fan fare aspect of it as well as a status symbol to have the fresh nike kicks, but where do they skip out on quality??

Nike definitely makes the best basketball shoes, but it's mainly their Jordan line that's the best. The rest aren't as good, in terms of function, fit, and looks.

The KD line is still a decent seller, but the bulk of Nike's sales are still Jordans.

I've always purchased Nike basketball shoes and have owned several pairs of Jordan's through the years. That being said the best pair of basketball shoes(comfort, support, weight, etc.)I've ever owned(I'm 39) are my current Adidas black high tops.

Nike's were just as expensive 20 years ago. Barkley's were $180 or $200 I think. Nike's pricing is a function of the economy + inflation. The better the economy the higher the price.

It must be more than just selling shoes. Because his shoes don't sell all that well. I believe last year, Nikes shoe sales went like this: $1B from Jordan, $300M from Lebron and $50M from Kobe.

Sales for Durant’s Nike signature sneakers jumped 400% last year from $35 million to $175 million in the U.S., according to research firm SportsOneSource. “The KD VI is an outstanding shoe and did really well last year, particularly at Christmas,” says SportsOneSource analyst Matt Powell. “Durant has really come into his own as a player and a personality.”

I remember when KD were like 85 bucks and since then, they went up an up. I think I've bought all the odd number shoes.

This deal would've gotten UA over the top. kD is a fashionista and when i go to footlocker, half the shelves have kD shoes.
