My boss is about to go and spend $9000 on a Rolex Two Tone Submariner, which I think is insane. Would you ever spend that kind of money on a watch?

I told him that if he really wants to spend money on a nice watch, he should buy an Omega Planet Ocean, which is 1/3 of the price.

    Thoughts?

I have the Yacht Master, it retains it's value better than the Submariner.......which has a plastic bevel.

    I love my Rolex.

Thoughts are that Rolexes are cheesy and for people who want to say they have a Rolex.

Plenty of nice expensive watches out there, many of which are as good or better IMO. If I had the money I'd buy a Jaeger-LeCoultre or an A Langhe & Sohn - but I don't :(

Personally I love Kenneth Cole watches. Even if I could afford a Rolex I would stick with what I like.

I'd rather buy something I can really, really use. Or pay debts off.

I don't care about impressing people which whom I don't even like. And that's what you're screaming with a watch that expensive.

Never understood the watch obsession. I spend money on things I don't need to(Clothes, shoes, Rockets stuff), but spending thousands of dollars on a watch? When my cell phone/cheap wal-mart watch will do the same thing? Who the hell cares how accurate a watch is? Are you afraid that one day you're going to wake up and be hours behind the rest of the world?

I usually don't wear a watch, but if I do, it's a watch that looks a lot like this:

One costs thousands. The other costs about $150. The similarities? Uncanny.

I'd rather put money into something else. That's just me though

a rolex tells the same time the burger king kid's meal watch does. they both tell you how fast your life is going by.

at the end of the day, everyone takes off their watches...

i'd rather go see the world with $9000.

I would think that if you can spend 9k on a watch you can also afford to see the world.

exactly. not that i'd ever spend that much on a watch but i'm thinking if someone else does they probably can afford to do whatever the f#$k they want in addition to that.

but if you're buying a $9,000 watch and you have $10,000 in credit card debt, you may be an idiot.
