People at Sundance kept raving about this psychological horror film. Very original, none of that cheesy popcorn scare. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was a deep and original that makes you think.

November 28, 2014 is the release date in theater but you can probably find it online since it's been out for a while.

I only clicked this thread because I thought it said "Badonkadonk." Disappointing.

I never watch horror movies because of the jump scares and the excessive gore.

Psychological thrillers/horrors are scarier and more watchable for me.

I saw it online and thought it was great. One of the better scary movies I've seen in recent memory.

didn't enjoy it, but I can't stand child actors (especially in horror films where they scream a bunch).

The Bababooey. I'm not sure what a Babadook is. It sure does sound scary, though.

I guess I should watch the trailer.

I think the Asian movie. . . The Audition . . . was spooky and sadistic and scary

    Great great movie.

I can see where many will miss the "point" or not catch the subtly of certain things (< as non-spoilery as I can put it), but even if you missed the boat on certain details, it was still a nice fun little ride. I roughly caught on and started stringing it together in my head and loved it, my GF on the other hand took everything for face value and still really enjoyed it.

One of those that gets better per viewing imo.

edit: Warning: You will, at times, want to punch the little kid in square in the throat.

Just watched it. Creepy. But I think I'm missing the point. Anyone care to explain what happened with spoiler tags?

What were the points you saw? I had a theory, but the movie seemed to not be explained

There is no monster. It's all in the mother's head. The thing symbolizes her depression over the death of her husband. She's a children's author. She wrote the book Babadook (watch her hands at the police station). Babadook can also be written as "a bad book". Given the boy's age, he too "sees" the monster with his mom ("don't worry I'll protect you"). The end of the film, we see her finally accept her husband's death will always remain with her but under control and with occasional 'feeding'/remembering him.

Downloaded it... haven't got the courage to watch it since I get home late every night and I don't want to watch it alone so late.
