While he is a role player on offense, the role he plays is massively crucial to the Warriors success. Stretch 4's that play elite, versatile defense don't grow on trees. He provides spacing on offense (along with a bit of playmaking ability) that allows Curry to probe driving lanes, and then still has the ability to successfully guard 4's that are much bigger than him on the other end of the floor. I imagine this is what Carl Herrerra loves about Patrick Patterson, who is a better shooter but not as good defensively. While I think Steve Kerr is a clear upgrade to Mark Jackson, you could argue that Green starting at the 4 (and overall just getting more minutes) is the main reason the Dubs are so much better this year. I'm unsure if he deserves the max, but he's gonna get paaaaaid next year. Detroit makes sense since SVG was one of the first to use the stretch 4 (Rashard Lewis, Ryan Anderson), the fit is there with Drummond and Jennings, and because Monroe may leave in free agency.

He's absolutely worth the max for one simple reason: in 2016, the salary cap skyrockets. A max deal today will be nowhere close to a max deal then. So any good player you can lockup this offseason for 2016 and beyond, you should "overpay". His salary would only be excessive for 1 year.
This is true for many players. I believe a lot of them will sign one-year contracts or contracts with opt-outs. Summer of 2016 will be soooo crazy. Summer of 2017 will be a downer because a lockout is inevitable.
Nah. He just fit the GSW system well. Curry and Klay get the most of the focus when they on offense, allowing Green for open shots. Great player on defense, but I'll go 9M - 10M max.
I just love how GSW are going to be dismantled next year. Draymond even said it himself this is a 1 season thing.
If I'm not mistaken, the Poison Pill Contract can only be used on players on their 1st or 2nd year. Green is on his third, entering his 4th next season. Green is gonna get the max, or he should get those types of offers. What he brings on defense is really important to a team as he can guard practically all positions, and he brings just enough on offense that he can be a threat with his passing and slightly above average three point stroke. It will be interesting if the Warriors can keep all their guys after this season. Thompson is getting his extension money next season, Green should command an almost, if not full, max contract, vital veterans like Iggy (12M), Bogut (12M) and Lee (15M) are getting paid a bunch and Curry is severely underpaid with his 11M contract. The Warriors are above the luxury with Thompson on his rookie deal and Green making less than 1M. They are going to have to make hard decisions to accommodate Klay making 15.5M next year and Green set to make 14-16M.
Replace the "Curry" and "Klay" with "Harden" and "Howard" and "defense" with "offense", and the same things were said about Parsons last season. All it takes is one team to offer a max contract for a guy whose real value is in the 9-12M range to get a max contract.
The Warriors are going to have the same team next year, minus David Lee. They're a very scary team that's here to stay, guys.
i think they will have to give him the max this summer, but once the salary cap jump comes, his salary won't be the new max. so technically he will only be a "max" player for 1 year. after 2016 his contract will look favorable.
