Our first season presiding over these rankings was also the season that the lottery-winning Rockets happily launched the Yao Ming era. For all of its problems in the playoffs since, there's no denying that Houston has been a fairly dependable force in the regular season, even in the face of the steady stream of injuries racked up by Yao and co-star Tracy McGrady.

So, we've essentially been the 7th best regular season team since Yao joined the Rockets according to these power rankings. And not a single playoff series win to show for it.

I'll take 7th with all the turmoil we've had to deal with the past 7 years.

I'm curious to what the rankings would be for the last 20 years. Ever since drafting Hakeem (and even before then really...) we've done pretty well for ourselves. We've always at least been a playoff calibur team. I'm betting if such a ranking existed it would probably be the Lakers and then us, with maybe the Spurs or Pistons in there somewhere.

The part from this that really hurts?
Meaning based on the bottom line, The Rockets have been Milwaukee Bucks West the past 6 postseasons.

no need to read that crap when you find it has Dallas over Detroit, Houston and Sacramento over Utah.

Looking at the Kings make me sad. Oh how the mighty have fallen. That was a great team to watch.

The Rockets...very bright 3-4 years ahead. Cannot wait!

Yeah, Dallas really hasn't been more successful than us the past six years despite beating us in the first round once, making it to the Finals once, and averaging more wins over that time period.

We really should ignore it because it overrates Dallas.

there's no doubt that the most powerful team over the past six seasons is spurs who had won three titles through that period of time. the worst is for sure the mavs who made a series of gabage contracts in dampire;terry and so on.

Yao has to show up in the playoffs and actually play well. He can't allow freaking Carlos Boozer to get 35 and 14 in a game 7.
