http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/film-session-omer-asik Lock if posted. Didn't want to sort through 116 pages on the Omer Asik sticky lol
There's an impressive video in the film session of Asik pushing Howard well outside of his comfort zone and into a terrible shot.
The Chicago Bulls were 7.6 points per 100 possessions better with Asik on the floor defensively. That's a ridiculous number considering he's replacing Joakim Noah on the best defense in the last 3 years.
I was impressed in the videos of how he was able to stay vertical and not get called for the foul as the opposing C's were banging into him.
Is this officialy yet?? I thought we didn't obtain him officially til midnight tonight? I'm sure they could post it anyways, but is this a done deal??
Makes you wonder why he didn't play more. I hope that he has the stamina to play 30-36 minutes per game
It's because his offense was so horrid. For a team that's as offensively inept as the Bulls, especially when Rose isn't playing, they can't have him out too long. Hopefully for the Rockets, Lin-Martin-QuadRookies is enough scoring to offset Asik.
He also often played with good defender Taj Gibson rather than ass defender Carlos Boozer. Something I didn't know before: Asik has an 9'4" standing reach. This explains why he barely has to jump to challenge shots and how he remains in good rebounding position after contesting.
Good point. I don't claim to know much about the Bulls (don't watch too many of their games) but based on Noah's stats and shooting form, it doesn't seem like he's a very good offensive player either, though.
Exactly what I was thinking... Unless they think Noah and Boozer should always play together, there is no added offense of Noah on the court. I'd be willing to say that Asik bullys his way to the rim harder than Noah... You KNOW his freethrow stroke is prettier...
I must correct myself, this is not true. Only 7 of the top 20 units involved Asik. This is still pretty good considering he's a back up, playing with the second unit. 5 of their top 8 best defensive units included Asik, including the very best one: Lucas-Korver-Brewer-Gibson-Asik, allowing 79 points per 100 possessions.
I guess the Bulls "technically" have until late tonight to match, but they have already released an official statement saying that they won't. And whiter... And now dunks... and blocks shots.... Now I can't help but think they have nothing in common...
If your bored go to his individual game stats on NBA.COM and scroll down til you see games where he played major minutes and his rebounding is almost always impressive... We may have our first player to average 10rpg in a while...
Here's to hoping McHale can help him improve his offense. I think he helped Jordan Hill quite a bit and he was starting to look decent on offense before he was traded.
