A source close to the situation tells ESPN that the Nuggets prefer not to trade Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, who are presumed to be the superstar's preferred destination.

The Knicks continue to pursue Anthony and have tried to enlist the Blazers to facilitate a three-team trade. So far Portland has made Nicolas Batum off limits in any scenario.

Denver feels that the Nets will keep their offer of Derrick Favors and draft picks on the table through the trade deadline.

The Nuggets remain likely to deal Anthony rather than face losing him to free agency in the off-season.

well all this doenst matter.. i think if carmelo wants to become a Rocket a deal would get done. We do have the most assets to trade with Denver.. But its all moot if melo wants to go elsewhere

Yes it does, it is great...GREAT news if Melo stays far away from the Knicks. This means their team will be average at best imo.

Plus, if he does get traded to us those picks from NY will be that much more valuable for Denver. Either way it's a plus for us.

I think Morey is just waiting for the asking price to go down and the Nuggets are waiting for a bidding war. Either way NJ has the best offer on the table the way I see it.

They're asking too much from us right now, you can tell.

Brandon is already asking for more touches... bringing Melo into that equation would be a chemistry nightmare waiting to happen.

No, I read this somewher else recently, the Knicks wanted/want to use Portland as the third team to give Denver what they want and make the deal work. So, lets say, it's Batum and whatever else NY send to Denver and Melo to NY. Not sure what Portland might get but probably JR Smith or Chandler maybe.

3-way trade. Melo goes to the Knicks. Blazers help provide the picks.

doesn't make sense to include Brooks. we can instead ship Lowry and his 5M salary, we got Ish.

    how about Martin+Hill+NY pick+Jeffries.

The Rockets are not getting Melo and thats ok. But this is good news because if we want a shot at getting the next star, a nice fancy 1st round pick from the Knicks next year is what we really want.

I don't want to think about this anymore, Melo will not be a rocket if he wanted to he would have been already.

    lets not fool ourselves here

still think right now its unlikely Melo gets moved to Houston

but the Knicks thing is good to hear because seriously I am pretty sure a team that is close to making a run could offer more than the Knicks can at this point in a trade for a 1/2 year rental...AND worse can scenario for the team trading for Melo is that its getting a large expiring contract back.

Something like that will yield far better offers at the deadline. The Knicks offers suck to be honest, they have no draft picks to trade till 2013 (and those maybe be forfeited if the league punishes them for the illegal workouts) and they have no players to trade that can be intriguing. Gallinari, maybe but honestly he hasnt impressed me too much. A solid player yes, but I was expecting more out of him. After that? Randolph? doubt he gets time in Denver with their front court...Curry? please if the Nuggets wanted a large expiring they keep Melo. Stoudemire? then why even trade for Melo?

The only thing the Knicks have is that Melo wants to play in NY other than that they have no real bargaining power. The Nuggets know this and they aren't going to let their star screw their team over and get to go where he wants in one swoop.

I mean hypothetically speaking if the Nuggets will look to rebuild with Melo leaving then Dallas could offer Caron Butler, Tyson Chandler, DeShawn Stevensen and 2 future first round picks for Melo and Nene

it works under the cap Denver would be getting all expiring deals and two future first round picks...they get out of Nene's contract a year early and save money and can try to use that with the new CBA...Butler and Chandler are obvious downgrades to Melo and Nene but they are still talented players and would be better than whatever NY could offer.

For Dallas chances are they wouldnt have kept any 3 of those players after this season anyway and a chance to make a run at the title then would really have only cost them two future 1st.

if melo wants to go to NY, hes going to NY one way or the other. all he has to do let it known hes not signing an extension with any other team. no team will give up any real quality assets to get him at that point. so denver can trade him somewhere for scraps if they want or go ahead and try to contend for a title this year and he will sign with NY at the end of the season.

Don't want to bring everybody down but I just remembered something.

Melo had previously said something like if the Nuggets trade him somewhere he doesn't want to go, we wouldn't re-up with that team so the team that got him would basically only get a 1 year rental.

Something like that...that's why they renewed talks with the Knicks in the first place...hoping to get a 3rd team involved so they can get the players they want.
