    Well retirement because of HIV virus is considered abrupt retirement.

    But he did lose to the Bulls before he had his HIV announcement. The Lakers squad wasn't as strong as the Lakers of old. Missing Cap and a few others.

    In the end we never truly would have known how the series would have turned out. People seem to guarantee 8 rings if Jordan didn't retire, but that is simple speculation. He might have won 5 and had a career burnout. Having a mid career retirement could have rejuvenated his career. One never truly knows.

    Nothing is guaranteed, but Bulls' already smashing LA (and continued dominance) is why Magic isn't mentioned.

    Sonics getting eliminated for HOU is a much bigger factor than Magic's situation for CHI. Not close. Fortunately, the media doesn't really mention the Sonics.

    And that's not saying SEA beats the Rockets either of those seasons. Hakeem was probably the best player ever those 2 seasons.

    Agreed nothing is guaranteed, but the best point guard of all time suddenly leaving in his prime was a giant deal.
