Even with Watt, Smith hasn't been a good GM. His middle round selections have been horrible and when those consistently don't work out, your team can't win.

Yes. Please don't give him a pass because he found Watt. Even he knows he has to do better drafting players.

one has to give the organization credit for the great players too. Even in the first rounds, the odds of a player being great are slim and we've nailed those picks. cushing, foster undrafted, newton, graham. those guys make up for some of the busts.

Very sad start to his career indeed and to think how close we were to draft perhaps the best QB prospect in the draft. Or we could have grabbed the NE kid.

We were never close to drafting Blake Bortles.

GM is always interesting to me
Cause No One knows what ours does
    that said

If we go 10-6 and goto the playoffs. . . . I doubt he is fired

Exactly right. They went 2-14, and he kept his job...so I guarantee you if they win 7 games or more, Rick will be GM again next year..and likely the next...and the next...

We're always looking for someone to blame when things go wrong. He has been better at FA signings and trades than he has at drafts but he's far from the worst.

It's hard to judge him because his job is to give the coaches what they believe gives them the best chance to win. Maybe Demeco would have stayed if Wade thought higher of him. The coaches had their chance to evaluate Ed Reed and still wanted him. You have to give him credit for getting a draft pick out of Matt Schaub even though the whole world knew they were going to cut him.

Agreed. Also, as proven by Newton, how many of those picks were good players but just in a jacked up system that we labeled bust. Everyone labeling Newton as worst tackle ever for the ZBS. Now he's the darling of the squad.

Cushing was drafted in 2009. We have had like 40 picks since him. Some have flamed out within a year. This team just went 2-14 last season and will likely cut players from bloated salary this off season. There is a huge lack of starting talent and no depth.

My point too . . .. . . we do not know if the coach was not coaching UP the players
or to apoint. . . may have coached them down

Me too. He had a great game. Seems to be a great kid, as well.

He was a great pick up off the waiver wire. We could have a really solid CB core after Bouye gets healthy.

You can't use that excuse any more considering the old coaching staff was sent packing 10 months ago.

    No doubt.

Makes cutting JJo to free up cap space that much easier too.

JJo is playing well... but, business is business.
