That's optimistic and I'd take that in a heart beat. That would be better than the last few drafts from the Texans.
im not giving up on the draft class, but to come away with no impact players would be a massive failure. kind of funny how "worst case scenario" earns a B grade. really telling...
again, swearinger and bouye statically have played better than any 2nd,3rd,4thrd from that ENTIRE draft class from ALL nfl teams, other than those 2 running backs I named. who would you have taken? and remember that gms rate a great class when they land 3-4 impact starters. and consider that the 27th pick is closer to the 2nd round. there's a reason why teams want our scouts as their gms. I don't care if you pick a player of Ikea, if he turns out to play better than every 2nd rounder from that year including our own, that's a win.
Don't take bobby seriously... On the first page of the thread he said: Of course he's going to defend his miserable position.
That's fine, but that's not the same thing as grading the draft. There wasn't a lot of immediate production so if there was never going to be another season, I could understand those who are down in the dumps about the draft. Fortunately I'm pretty sure they were looking more long term.
A few rookies made the pro bowl. One just got named to the all-pro team (several others got votes). None of the Texans' rookies got considered. So, yes, there was immediate production from the draft; just not from the Texans.
Yeah, it can happen, but immediate success isn't the only success. The Packers' 2005 draft looked pretty weak after the first season, but I don't think anyone would complain about it now.
Aaron Rodgers is the only player still playing from that draft. He and Nick Collins are the only probowl players. That is still not an A+ draft.
And you missed the point, I'm sure there were fans calling it an "F-" draft because of the lack of instant production, yet looking back they drafted a HOFer in that class. There was a point where Kareem Jackson was viewed as a draft bust because of his lack of instant production yet today he's the Texans' best CB. It all depends on if you are looking at the big picture or if you are being short sighted about it. There's nothing that guarantees that we'll look back on this draft class differently, but given the circumstances, a grade of this class after one season is premature IMO.
So what? Grades can change. You had no problem assessing the draft class right after the draft and now you do? We're not scared to make decisions based on the information we have now. My biggest problem with the draft is the fact that they didn't address positions of need early enough or at all. That is never going to change. Speaking of Kareem, imagine if the Texans benched him after a year and went after Richard Sherman in 2011. Nobody would be mad at them for doing that. The Texans started a horrible CB for two plus years to get a barely above-average CB by year four. Imagine if they had Sherman instead. Two can play your game.
What grade did you give the Texans for the 2014 draft class...??? Of course Mel isn't the end all be all but looking through the 1st 5-6 pages of this thread Mr Clutch nailed it. http://www.battleredblog.com/2015/1/23/7879705/mel-kiper-re-grades-jadeveon-clowney-texans-draft
Dre Hal could be a starter and Clowney has recovered quicker than anticipated. I still have hope for this draft.
