Although not on TIME magazine, this article by Hoston Chronicle's columnist Fran Blinebury back to LAST SEPTEMBER was a very insightful one too. I was surprised that it was actually written half a year ago, and based on the first impression of Fran on Yao. I think the observation in the article may still ring true for some time to come. It actually prompted me to read all his past articles about Rockets since then. As no one was born as a prophet, yet a talent as with savvy eyes can never been mistaken... The book on Yao is not a quick read: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/blinebury/1561757
I still don't understand that why they are still saying Chinese government will get 50% of his income. He will give 8 million to shanghai shark if he can play least 3 years in NBA and another 5% to Chinese government.
Here's another article in the asian edition of Time on Yao's replacement in Shanghai (an American). http://www.time.com/time/asia/magazine/article/0,13673,501030210-418619-1,00.html Good read, Very funny. This quote pretty much sums it up: QUOTE]Even an 18-year-old forward named Wang Li Gang feels obliged to throw his two fen in. "Not everybody can be like Michael Jordan," he says, "but I thought they'd be better than this."[/QUOTE]
Great article. Do they use Yao as cover? I read in the Chron that they wanted him to shoot the cover but he declined. BTW is the new SI issue out yet? I think Chron also said that the next SI issue prepared to use him as cover but he also turned down shooting the cover photo.
No, the tragedy to USS Columbia was just heartbreaking to people all across the world... so the pic where Columbia dismantles into pieces goes on the cover... may the seven astronauts rest in peace...
