I think there is a strong correlation between being a good NBA coach and making it in the NBA as a player without great athleticism. Example

    Riley
    Phil Jackson
    Larry Brown
    Dunleavy
    Rick Adelman
    Rick Carlisle
    Doc Rivers
    Kerr
    Jerry Sloan
    Luke Walton
    Lenny Wilkins
Rudy T ( decent but not great athleticism)

Am I wrong? This is why I could support Sam and Kenny Smith(though Kenny had some serious dunking skills before coming to the rockets) as coaches

Generally it is the average to above average players that make good coaches.

Battier can't even stand doing commentating nor analysts. He said it was just not him. You do know that NBA analysts is basically a coach that can't get a job right?

Luke Walton? Are we already labeling him a good NBA coach?

List is not complete without names like Scott Brooks, Scott Skiles, Earl Watson, and Jason Kidd.

Looking at your list of players, they all have at least one thing in common. Most of these guys were good or great play makers. They could see the play developing and get themselves in the right position or point to where someone should go so they could make a pass, or move out the way so someone could cut to the basket. It's about angles and moving to an open spot that someone just vacated.

Too bad Battier has higher aspirations than basketball. I think he would make a great Team GM/President.
