The Rockets are 6-1. Their one loss came when we were missing 3/5 of our starting lineup.

    The Mavs are 4-3.

    That is all that matters.

LOL there's a big difference in the "Leslie Alexander path" as you say it and the current Dallas Mavs: those Rox teams were young and cheap, this Dallas team is old and expensive. You see while the Rox were competitive, Morey was hell bent on acquiring assets, so what would happen is we would get young, solid contributors on the cheap like Patpat or Mandry or Lowry, and then we would trade them for more assets once they hit FA and everyone realizes their worth. Multiply that by several years and we get both capspace and assets to trade for a star like Harden.

On the other hand, Dallas is just focused on trying to win now at all costs, they have a window thanks to Dirk so instead of the Rox who entered each year better than the rest in terms of assets and cap flexibility, Dallas will only get worse as the guys they brought in to win a ring like Tyson Chandler or Monta Ellis become older and older. And thanks to Parsons' max cap, I don't think they have the flexibility to add another star for the next 3 years. To be honest, I have no idea what Cubes is doing, if he wanted to win now why'd he break up the championship core with Chandler, only to bring him back last year? Not only that didn't they have Mayo who also performed well for them, why'd they let him walk before too? And Matrix? All these are win now guys who would have complemented Dirk, now they have old Tyson Chandler who wasted years elsewhere, Monta who's basically a defenseless Mayo and Chandler Parsons who's a glorified role player making max money LOL.

Don't the Mavs have a lot of salary coming off this books this season, and some bigtime cap space for next summer?

I thought Dirk/CP/Ellis take up 33 million total

No big time free agent wants to go to the Mavs. They've already struck out a few times already.

 Next year Dallas will have some capspace due to Tyson Chandler expiring but unless they want to start with a dleaguer at center they'll need to bring him back or spend the money on someone else. CP makes 15M by himself and he has a 2 year contract with player option at the 3rd year, which he will obviously exercise so no capspace for the next 3 years. Dirk and Ellis' contracts expire 2 years from now but since Parsons still has one year left and it's likely Dallas spent the Tyson CHandler money on someone else by then I doubt they'll have much to spend, probably 15M again LOL and that's if they let both Dirk and Monta walk for nothing.

Your players' contracts have to expire all at the same time or you'll never have capspace, because you'll need to spend the money on players on the court.

idk I just saw something on Reddit from mavs fans saying they were clearing alot of space this summer.

Clearly they aren't going to attract any HUGE names, but if they can add some nice pieces to their core trio that could make them better.

Dallas can have a lot of cap space next summer if they renounce their rights on Tyson Chandler and Brandon Wright, and Monte Ellis opts out of his player option. If they don't do those things, they'll have a lot less, or none.

But who will they get to play alongside that trio? It would have to be a center or guard. You can forget the likes of Durant in 2016 who plays the same position as Parsons or Aldridge or Love next summer who play the same position as Dirk.

They can't get any free agents. Stuck out on Lebron twice, Howard, even Deng and Ariza. They can't even get Dallas born players like D-Will or Bosh.

Once Dirk hangs it up, the Mavs will be in an even more darker place in terms of getting players to come.

Monta is rather annoyed at Parsons making almost double he does and Monta can opt out at the end of the year, expect him to make at least 12m if not more.

Also...when has Dallas EVER signed a big FA? That list isn't long I assure you.

Houston actually has had way more history of signing big name FAs..

No matter what, Dallas ain't clearin that 16M per year Parsons contract from its books. It is as Morey said, a virtually untradeable contract. They won't be making any big waves for the next two years. Enjoy it because it came at the price of us re-signing Parsons at a reasonable price. We hurt but they will hurt more.

I don't think that means they can't get free agents in the future. If the money is right and there looks to be an opportunity to win, an FA will sign in Dallas. Posters were bemoaning the same thing before Dwight Howard signed here -- stars want the glamor cities and not Houston, stars don't like how Morey treats players like assets, or whatever. Houston struck out 54 times before getting Howard. It's not easy. But once Dallas gets someone big, they'll turn around quickly.
