1/4000 sec shutter. Must have been some other problem. You can freeze a fastball at 1/1250. Lenses are expensive compared to a compact camera with a built in lens but cheaper than premium DSLR lens. Plus you can use the lens you buy with either Olympus or Panasonic.

I still would suggest a Sony RX100 (I, II or III) or if I had to choose from the original list, the Panosonic Lumix ZS20.

I have the RX100MII. The RX100 series is undoubtedly the best point and shoot camera on the market.

If you are willing to expand your budget and give up the long zoom the Sony RX-100is the best compact. Better means higher picture quality. Much better pictures in low light (night or in restaurant) better built (metal body) and a much larger sensor (4 times the size)

This one does look good. Problem is I always over spend on stuff I hardly use. I'll probably end up getting this one anyways.

Do you know the basics of photography or can you teach yourself? If you can educate yourself on how/when to control ISO/shutter/Aperature, I highly recommend Olympus OMD-EM5 with a small lens like the 20mm 1.7.

Its a great little setup for the price that you can take anywhere with you and the image stabilization is out of this world.

It also lets you learn photography instead of just pointing and shooting. You can point and shoot with it also, but then if that all you will ever do then any $100 camera will do.

If you think you know more, you can get the Fuji X-T1 which has a larger sensor, better colors, and ISO but the Fuji lenses are very expensive. Fuji also costs nearly twice as much as the OMD-EM5.

Personally, I have been trough pretty much every system and in the end, I always keep coming back to the full frame sensor. Currently enjoying the Nikon Df with 58mm 1.4G lens. Yes, its chunkier, and a pain to take around (although nicely designed and smaller FF). However, once I sit down on my PC and review the pics, the colors and ISO performance are just amazing and the "pain" is worth it. For me, personally, I cannot give up the image quality of a full frame sensor. You cannot win against physics.

I don't know anything about photography and I highly doubt I'm going to teach myself anything. Pretty lazy that way. I want something that will take good pictures and can print in good quality.

On Amazon and other retailers it's still $500+, so I would think so yes.
