Newton wasn't great but he wasn't horrible last year either. He had a false start, allowed a sack here and there, but his performance last year wasby as bad made it out to be.
Disagree. He was absolutely horrible last year. The stats backed it up as he was one of the worst tackles in the league. I actually liked him the year prior as he showed promise. Last year's effort was injury related. You are seeing the growth we all saw two years ago. Set at tackle.
To say Newton wasn't bad last year or the years previous is just plain wrong, that said he has played much better this year and while I think it's too early to declare them "set at tackle", I do hope he can keep up his great play for the rest of this year and the remainder of his time here. It is nice when you can get a late rounder like Newton to settle in and be a book-end on the line, that is something that frankly does not happen enough for this franchise and it is very refreshing when it does. Sad thing is, it took him all of his contract here to play up to a starters standard and this year is the last under his current deal, he is UFA after this season. With this franchise it seems with any good news there is a cloud of darkness to follow.... So, for Derek Newton, do you pay up Rick Smith?
Get rid of Joseph, retain Kareem(Loving the DB depth)/Newton, draft best DT available in draft if your QB isn't there in round 1.
