Hey guys, I am looking to put a new radio/bluetooth deck in my girlfriend's truck. It's an older GMC model. Thing is, it seems awfully expensive, and I am not sure if I am just looking at the wrong stores. Found a decent JVC deck and a couple of speakers, all told for those two it was about $110 at Best Buy. But then the guy starts adding in all the extras, 'harness', etc, labor, and before I knew it, the bill was over $300. Maybe that's just the going rate these days, but I just don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if Best Buy is not the best place to go for stuff like this. My main goal is to get her something which works with bluetooth but which won't cost an arm and a leg, especially since I don't think she will have the truck all that much longer. Is there a better place to go? Or is that just the average going rate for standard installation of a deck and a couple speakers in a 12-year-old truck nowadays? It just seems weird to me that the installation is twice what the hardware costs. Thanks guys..
My Brother has a car audio store right next door to where I work. Come check him out! Place is called Car Tunes. It's in League City passed the Clear Lake area.
One cheap way to add only bluetooth would be using an Bluetooth FM transmitter. This is the one I use. http://amazon.com/gp/product/B015O97LCQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 It works well as long as you can find a good empty fm channel.
I spent over $600 for my Pioneer radio and installation, FWIW. But check out Mobile One. If the y still have the $1 install then that will take care of labor. But you'll still have the harness and kit price. Better yet, buy everything you need online. The radio, harness, and kit. And take it somewhere to be installed.
I went to Crutchfield.com and paid something like $130 for an Alpine blu-tooth set (no GPS screen). It took me about half an hour to install and set up the micro phone. Is that expensive now-a-days, $130?
The labor costs to install a couple of speakers alone is probably going to be around $50-$100. Then you have the labor to install the deck. The $110 seems cheap for a pair of speakers and a deck, though, but I haven't bought aftermarket car audio in years, so who knows.
