A possible 48 win team is going to miss the playoffs

    It's like that 07-08 season with the Warriors missing the playoffs.

    Phoenix, Memphis and Dallas are sitting at 45-46 wins right now.

    Phoenix and Memphis have 6 games left. Dallas has 5 games left.

    They all play each other one last time.

    Phoenix is probably out because they have the toughest schedule left, and they play the tiebreaker game vs Dallas on the road, and Memphis already has the tiebreaker albeit they play one last time in Phoenix.

    And any one of these teams is the 3rd seed in the East right now.

    You're going to have win more than 48 to get in the playoffs this year in the west.

    Last week, one of the ESPN announcers said the T-Wolves (10th in the West) would be #3 in the East.

    Maybe if you factor in the easier schedule from playing in the East. But the T-Wolves have been right around .500 all season (including now), and there are seven teams in the East with a winning record.

    I believe any of the top four in the west, including Rockets, if playing in the east these days, will be on top the Heat and Pacers.

    Put all of these teams in mid 90's west, with those rules (90's), and I think maybe 3 make the playoffs. 4 at most.

    how do you figure?

    there are currently five 50 win teams in the West and the Wolves only have 6 games left.

    GSW 48 29 = 5 games to get 2 wins
    Dallas 47 31 = 4 games to get 3 wins
    Phoenix 46 31 = 5 games to get 4 wins .
    Memphis 45 32 = 5 games to get 5 wins
    Minnesota 38 38 = can't get to 50 wins

    likely will be six 50 win teams out of West this season

    Heck, taking strength of schedule into account, the Nuggets or Pelicans would probably be on track for a 6 or 7 seed if they were in the East.

    All 4 of those teams are already on top of the Heat and Pacers...well not the Rockets but we're like half a game behind the Pacers and a game behind Miami. With Miami's/Indiana's schedule we'd EASILY be on top of both of them.

    Yup. I don't think it's fair for teams that put in the work (west) and miss the playoffs while you can play like garbage/be a joke of a team and make the playoffs (east).

    Reduce the regular season to 58 games. You play each team twice, one game at home, one away. Get rid of conferences and divisions, the best 16 teams make the playoffs. Problem solved.
