In your Minnesota example _ isn't that the year AP ran them to the playoffs...? The coach wasn't necessarily a genius and not many of those other options happened either. Tampa bay won 10 games one year with Freeman and didn't make the playoffs but thought things were looking up _ coach fired the following year or so.

On the flip side _ if the Texans only win 4-5 games that doesn't necessarily not make O'Brien a good coach... Pete Carroll had a losing record his 1st two years in Seattle_ but he was still a good coach. Bradley in Jacksonville only won 4 games but he's a good coach.

What's more important to me is that Savage becoming a top 5 quarterback from the list of options.

QB is the most important thing in football. The rest of the successes will follow suit.

Well with the Rockets punting on the season before it begins, I guess it's time to focus back on football. The Texans and Rockets have about the same chance of making the playoffs give the moves they've made.

If Clowney lives up to the hype, and Cushing plays all season and looks great, the defense would be amazing, and could get a playoff spot.

if the defense plays amazing, then I think the offense, has enough talent to score some points, and win 9-10 games carried by the defense.

With Cushing, Watt and Brooks high energy play in there as well, I think Clowney and Mercilus will be swept up in the beat fest also and make this front 7 a beast to be feared.

I can actually see this happening.
this team has the potential to do it but will it happen quickly? We can only hope.

very surprised with the poll results. I would have figured O Brien as a genius or a playoff spot would be #1, #2.

I picked O'Brien because he could turn out to be a genius, but we would still suck due to a lack of talent.

That way we get to have tons of optimism going forward, while finally shedding ourselves of that empty suit Rick Smith.

O'Brien being a genius or Savage (or any QB) becoming elite are the only correct answers.

The last decade is littered with teams that fluked their way into a playoff berth only to fall back to garbage soon after. If we have an elite coach or QB we have a great shot be consistently good for a while.

    I chose the QB option.
Football can be spontaneous and a good QB can make things happen. Look at what Brady or Luck does for NE and Indy - the ability to improvise can cover a multitude of sins.
With a good QB, you are a constant threat and always entertaining to watch.

If the Texans stagger into the playoffs with so many questions, that would mean that many of the listed stuff actually happened.

I would still take Savage becoming a top-5 QB than several of the other things coming true.

    Yep.
You can start to build a team around a solid QB.

The Tom Savage option will not happen. I think we drafted our back before we draft or sign our Starter next season. I still think we sign Mallet but it will be next year and we will draft a QB as well depending on who comes out. I wouldn't be surprised if Bill is waiting to see how Hackenberg works out at Penn State. He seems like the type that is going to do it his way and with his people. Can't fault him for that.
