The myth that the Rockets would suck in 2013-14 if they lost Dwight Howard

I know this thread is being made WAY too early since we haven't even acquired Dwight yet, but why are people assuming that we'll get to tank if Howard decides not to re-sign with us?

We're not literally trading our entire roster to get Dwight. We might still have a re-signed Dragic who could further improve. We might get other pieces in the Dwight trade. We might still have one of the first round draft picks from this year. We could still have Parsons, Lee, Patterson, and Camby.

What if Marcus Morris pans out with increased playing time? What if Motiejunas blooms into a star? What about Llull? Don't forget about the 2nd round pick this year along with our late 1st/2nd round picks next year.

If the Rockets really want to tank, they'd pretty much need to get rid of Morey and his staff. Morey's ability to find solid players late in the first round and throughout the second round is too good if your goal is to suck.

We could very well be stuck once again drafting at the 11-14 spot after the 2013-2014 season.

In all honesty we would be worse than we are now, but not considerably worse. We wouldn't be picking #14 but I doubt we would be in the top 5 either. Even so, if he does leave it clears up all of our huge contracts and lets us build a team from the ground up with A LOT of flexibility cap-wise.

We don't have a 2nd rounder this year. Camby will be 57 in 2 more years. D-Mo, Morris and Llull have shown nothing.

I'll be Ok if we suck in 2013-2014. Just a better chance for us to draft Jabari Parker.

I just traded for D12 and Jsmoove in NBA2k12 while adding Ray Allen as our starting 2. We missed the playoffs. Mavs-an 8th seed went on to sweep the heat in the finals. If that were to happen, i would end my life.

2K is touted for its realism. Maybe we shouldn't go for Dwight and JSmoov after all...

The Rockets would suck if we lost Dwight Howard at the end of the year, and that's OK.

Morey has been stuck in a holding pattern for years because Les Alexander won't let him blow up the roster and properly rebuild.

Since star players like Howard, Durant, Rose aren't going to sign a long-term deal to come to Houston, the next best plan is to bring someone like Howard to Houston and try to convince him to stay.

If he leaves, then the roster is gutted and we have the flexibility to start a proper rebuild.

That basically is the problem with the Rockets. It is hard to imagine a roster that would truly suck. They are just to deep. Or is that a positive. I get sooo confused.

    This thread is a myth.

We dont know who will be included in any trade for DH or any other trade before or after it. You can't expect to be a winning team by brining in rookies and overseas players with no NBA experience. We barely cracked .500 and a stripped down version of this team isn't going to beany better with Dmo or Lull.

Even if guys break out, it doesn't happen on day one. They'd come around late in the season, when it's just that, late.

If they won't suck without Dwight, then why would Dwight leave us? I mean, by this reasoning we should be contenders(one tier behind OKC and perhaps SA if they continue to defy time), and Dwight Howard would be happy to stay.

Therefore, any scenario where Dwight Howard leaves would imply that he failed with the Rockets. If we fail with Dwight Howard, we're going to suck quite badly without him.

But the Roster really isn't being gutted. So no we wouldn't suck.

We would have enough left over to keep us in the current situation were in, stuck in the ****ing middle.

We're better off keeping the 5th & 8th pick (if attainable)

This. Wiggins is a mix of Jordan, Hakeem, and Lebron
