Dirk passed up Dominique Wilkins for 11th all-time in scoring today. How close is he to Hakeem?? I'm hoping Dream will come out of retirement just to make sure no damn Dallas Maverick takes his spot in the top 10. P.S. ***** the Mavericks and ***** Dallas!!! And the Spurs too for that matter.
He'll be 7th by the end of next season if he doesn't get hurt...ahead of Dream, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone.
Eh, career total points isn't all that great of a stat. It's more of a testament to great health than anything. And, it's not like any sane person puts him in the same conversation with Olajuwon in terms of overall impact.
He came very close to winning two championships in Hakeem-like fashion (essentially carrying the team as the only superstar). I wish he beat the heat in 2006 actually. But yeah, Hakeem still > Dirk
I wonder where he'll end up? At 35 he's showing no sign of slowing down. He can pass Shaq in another season and a half. After that its 5.5k more to pass Wilt, kobe and MJ. Speaking of kobe, he needs only 500 to pass MJ. That's probably the only goal he's got left. I can see him chucking 20 shots a game on one leg just to get there.
F*** Dallas, F*** the Spurs, but don't deny the greatness of Dirk or Duncan. Those two have earned the right to stand next to Dream
Good for Dirk. Definitely one of the most gifted scorers of the last 10 years. His height and style makes for a unique combination. He's going to keep going up that list... his game is one that will age very well and doesn't require the hops of a guy in his 20's. Putting all that aside...Mavs suck.
Dirk has some un-guardable shots that he makes at a high percentage. He is one of the truly gifted and most accomplished scorers in the history of the game.
Dirk is only 269 points away from bumping Hakeem out of the 9th spot. It's a foregone conclusion that he'll pass Hakeem, probably within the first 2 weeks of next season. In fact, Dirk will climb all the way up the 7th spot even if he only plays half of next season. He'll almost certainly finish his career as the 6th All-Time Leading Scorer, ahead of Shaq. I don't see him catching Wilt though. If LeBron averages 24 ppg over the next 2 years, he'll knock Hakeem out of the Top 10 altogether. Soon after, Carmelo and Durant will crack Top 10 too. I don't think anyone else currently in the league is likely to pass Hakeem. So he'll probably stay at that 13th spot for a long, long time. 01. Durant 02. LeBron 03. Kareem 04. Kobe 05. K.Malone 06. Carmelo 07. Jordan 08. Wilt 09. Dirk 10. Shaq 11. M.Malone 12. E.Hayes 13. Hakeem <------
Hakeem was the best defender ever to play the game. Plus he could score at will. Don't care really if Dirk passes him. Hakeem was a better player by far. Duncan on the other hand, not sure who's better between him and Hakeem. Both great on both sides of the court.
You have to respect Dirk. And LBJ is closing in on being the best player ever in the NBA. Records are made to be broken.
Dirk's impact on the guards who play with him is insane too. So it's not just his pure scoring. The attention he draws on the floor for a big man is unparalleled.
