    I am looking for a list of unprotected prospects for the Astros. For the upcoming draft next year.

    Seems some other mlb team fan/sites have gathered this info already. No Astros fan site I have found has though.

    Figured since this forum was really taking off you guys might know =P

    HA. This forum taking off...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    That list doesn't mean much until December. We won't know who is on the 40 until after this season's trades end and cuts are made. I would just wait on that.

    A quick, and non exhaustive check on my part.

    Joseph Musgrove
    Alfredo Gonzalez
    Tyler Heineman
    Teoscar Hernandez
    Adrian Houser
    Danry Vasquez
    Reymin Guduan
    Jandel Gustave
    Matt Duffy
    Nolan Fontana
    Andrew Aplin
    Aaron West
    Joe Sclafani
    Mike Hauschild

    It's not too hard to figure out. Any college player (19 or older) drafted in 2012 will be eligible this year. Any player under 19 that was signed in 2011 or earlier is eligible this year

    It's a pet peeve. Go to the MLB rulebook and look up Rule V. It may take you a while.

    That status would go with them if traded?

    Let's say we moved Musgrove and Fontana in a deal, the team that got them would either have to put them on their 40 man roster or risk losing them to the Rule V draft?

    Na, i'm not that interested in it

    I just know that in Roman Numerals, V = 5

    So in the end, it's the same thing, that's all

    Did you just seriously feel the need to explain Roman numerals to me?

    And yes, it's the same thing in the end if you don't mind being wrong. Like I said, pet peeve.

    Ok man, i'm really sorry it upsets you.

    And on something like this, I certainly don't mind "being wrong" lol

    Yep. Musgrove was a trade acquisition for us once upon a time. The Rule V (or 5 lol) timer is set in stone regardless of team or injury time missed.

    Will be likely to lose a couple I would think then, obviously depending on what moves we make between now and then.

    Musgrove obviously will have to be put on the 40 man. Hernandez was very highly thought of coming into the year but has been terrible. I would think Fontana is a guy someone would take if left available, as he could likely be a decent bench guy in the majors already

    Thanks for the list!! Should be interesting to see who they retain.

    But I do want to see more of..
    Joseph Musgrove
    Jandel Gustave
    Matt Duffy
    Aaron West

    @Buck Turgidson
    lol yeah went with Rule V.. I know its Rule 5 but somewhere it was cemented in my head at one point as Rule V... I would edit it but no perms, maybe a mod could update it?

    @boozle222
    I have been lurking the forums for sometime and like where this place is going, Astros talk that is..

    @The Beard

    Alfredo Gonzales is a guy I'm really interested in keeping an eye on the rest of the season with Nottingham gone. He's really picked it up at the plate this year at each level he's played at, and from what little I know about him his defense is good, especially in the running game (19 SB, 18 CS). I think Stassi has played his way off the 40-man, and Gonzales could be the AAA guy on the 40 next year to serve as the 3rd catcher in case something happens to either of the guys in Houston.

    There's probably room for II catchers on the XL-man assuming Castro gets non-tendered.

    Yeah, I guess they would have room since it's an extra large roster.

    I think they'll find a trade partner for Castro.

    Has anyone come up with a confirmed (and somewhat comprehensive) list of Astros minor leaguers eligible for (and who might actually be drafted in) the 2015 Rule 5 Draft? (Btw, thanks, sealclubber, for this list.)

    With the trade deadline looming, I'd like to see the Astros move young guys either on the 40-man roster who may not have major futures with the Astros (Singleton? Santana?) or guys eligible for the upcoming Rule 5 draft. Hell, I wouldn't mind Luhnow and company moving decent AAA guys for low-A lottery tickets.

    I'd just like to clear up the imminent 40-man roster logjam that is coming this December.
