This would be a terrible decision. There is no market in the NBA for a point guard that can't shoot, no matter how good you are otherwise. Rondo is basically the only exception.
Sad how many kids get bad advise year after year. Thought Kabongo was a much better player than Taylor at this point in their careers and he went undrafted and eventually waived in the D-League. Taylor would have excelled in Smart's up tempo system.
Great move by both parties IMO. It will be interesting to see how Smart adapts his system to the players currently on the roster but Taylor's game fits perfectly to what Smart wants to do.
I was not a big Barnes critic, but I am very pleased with Shaka Smart to date. He has kept our two good recruits that Barnes signed and now Taylor. In addition there is a top 50 recruit that may follow him from VCU. With the returning talent it should lead to a very good year next year.
Eric Davis and Kerwin Roach are the signees sticking with Texas. Tevin Mack committed to VCU but could possibly follow Smart. All 3 are Top 50 players.
Ridley, Lammert, Taylor, Holland are staying. Holmes is done and Turner is the only one that can get drafted. I'm assuming he is referring to one of those 4. Hopefully the top 50 guy is a 3 or 4 because it sounds like Shaka has a couple of 6'2 6'4 guards coming in. Finally some size at guard. Barnes was so old school. Refusing to play freshmen heavy minutes, not a trait of the final four coaches. Also, why did he always have short guards? Only team that had a decent sized 2 guard was the final four team with Royal Ivey. Barnes adapts about as fast as the US government, (picturing an old man slowly walking with a cane as his hand shakes on top of the cane).
Barnes never had a problem with playing freshman heavy minutes. He's had many freshman laden teams and started freshmen all the time. People complained that he regularly relied too much on freshmen.
Big time commit for Shaka and the Longhorns. Mack along with Davis and Roach is a nice first class and rumor going around that we're not done.
http://projects.statesman.com/documents/?doc=2475213-orange-white-scrimmage-oct-21-2015 Gregory Gym was over 75% full tonight for the Orange-White Scrimmage. Unfortunately, I couldn't go, but I think it's going to be an exciting season.
Here's a recap along with a link to photos from the scrimmage: http://texassports.com/news/2015/10/21/MBB_1021151317.aspx Photo gallery: http://www.texassports.com/galleries/?gallery=730
Shaka's got himself a point guard, it looks like. Roach filled up the stat sheet without taking a ton of shots, plus 5 assists. Great news! Can't wait for the regular season to start.
"Can you buy a jumper on Alibaba?" - Bill Walton lol oh god... other commentator: "this is the first game ever in China (for NCAA)" Bill Walton: "it's like Lewis and Clark!!"
Incredible game today between #3 North Carolina and Texas. The game just went back-and-forth and had the intensity of a late season game. So glad I was able to go to the game and forget about studying for finals for a little bit! Probably the best basketball game I've seen all year! Both teams matched each other shot for shot.
